Do you think game companies are being hard on the people that actually buy they're games? Putting stuff like StarForce on they're games. Seems like they're combating the customers instead of the problem at hand, people that download games. Why don't they introduce a system which is full proof? It can't be that hard? Can it?
Ok, ok maybe im just rambling. People on the internet have been saying things like "zomfg newb. get conzoles. tehy r ftw". I just got a new computer, do developers expect me to go out and buy a $600AU dollar console? Just so i can play different games? Just because they're system of control is inferior?
P0st thoughts pl0x.

P.S
I don't rip games!
I've downloaded quite a few. Mostly older games rather than brand new releases.
Several reasons:-
I used to download them a lot more when I didn't have a debit card. Now I can buy things from home and play them after they download and install, I legally own much more of my incoming software.
Not all games downloaded are warez or cracked. I bought my 2142 version from EA thru the EA download manager. (Not all games bought come with a CD or box.)
At first I thought the thread pertained to simply if folks had downloaded games, as many games are now for sale as downloads, While downloading pirated versions is a whole different issue.
I have never downloaded any pirated content, the reality is If I cant afford it, I dont get it...too often in todays society is larceny accepted as sticking it to the man or rebelling against the machine. The cold reality is, there is no machine, just people trying to make a living, pay their bills, put food on the table for their lil ones, etc. Stealing their hard work and efforts without compensation, dont make one cool or a rebel. It makes them a thief plain and simple.
I guarantee you pirates and those who dl the stuff would be the first to holler if folks started stealing out of their pockets on a daily basis.
While I agree the whole issue has gotten out of hand, please put blame where blame is due, without folks stealing games and movies ,music, there would be no need for the measures we as customers have to deal with daily.
to the OP
well...you must be a bit silly or naive, in my life i have played 100's of games but only 1 i bought it from store. The games are eating your time dont let to eat your mony also IMO and yes i like it, actualy i love to download games and try it, if is one good and i like it i will buy it
This is going to seem like I'm trying to stick to to the machine or rage against the man, but ah well.
I think computer game pirates are being scapegoated to fool people into accepting ridiculous 'security measures' that clearly do nothing to prevent piracy, but do everything to increase profits.
EA's 'security measures' are the most obvious example, with them farming your information to be used for advertising, as well as forcing some people into buying more copies of their games because they've ran out of installs.
and do they prevent piracy? do they fuck. Spore was cracked BEFORE it was even out, and that contained some of the most restrictive security measures to date. If you want to know how effective these measures are at fighting piracy, try writing any of these into a bittorrent search engine :- Mass Effect, Spore and (tomorrow, or maybe saturday) Red Alert 3. I'll eat my hat if you can't find a single good copy.
Nah, I don't think that saying "these security measures are only in place because people download games" is true at all. Especially since we're speaking on a stardock forum which is a company that makes/publishes good games for good prices and has copy protection that is seriously easy to deal with.
And just between you and me, I don't think they're doing bad business at all.
While I agree that the measures used by most are about as worth less as gun control laws, as they only ever really really seem to make it harder for the Legitimate folks to use either. ( criminals dont follow the law to begin with that's why their called...... wait for it...... criminals!
Having said that, you must concede that if there was no people downloading pirated materials, the demand for pirates and the measures used to fight them would not be as prevalent as currently, as there would be no excuse.
I agree many CO's are exploiting the current piracy issue to further squeeze a few $$ out of the paying customers pockets. But I lay the major portion of the blame on those who created the demand and consequential issues on those who created the demand..
SD was not the type of Co I was describing in my commentary as SD is the least intrusive and abusive of the gaming industry. I applaude SD for thier strides to make Gaming better for all. Brad and the SD team have been for years IMO on the fore front of showing a better buisness model for software management. Not only with thier copy protection, but the sales and support staff is stellar compared to many companies out there. SD treats its customers as real people, on a personal level. * not to many CEO's are as approachable or as visible in the daily going's on as Brad is*
