Anyone looking forward to this?
I played the original extensively and it was an absolute favourite for years. Looking forward to the revamp. Classic turn based game play.
Oh yeah!
I don't buy too many games and I was tossing up whether to buy Spore or this. Its now an obvious choice - bring on next week.
I have both expansions to Civ4... Is colonization another expansion pack or just a bundle?
I'm certainly looking forward to it.
I'm looking forward to reading the reviews for Civ4: Colonization.
It looks promising!
"Is colonization another expansion pack or just a bundle?"
It's called Civ IV: Colonization (which is an odd name) but it's a completely seperate game (do not have to own any of Civ IV to install/play). It happens to have expansion-like pricing at around $30 (likely due to using the Civ IV engine). It's a remake of a classic. It's somewhat similar to Civ but very different at the same time. There's a lot of info about it at www.civfanatics.com.
It was a great game that I played the heck out of and I'm stoked to get this new edition. Tuesday can't arrive fast enough.
Colonization next tuesday...and GC2 2.0 soon after that. Good times, good times!
I have already preordered the game as for me Civ 4 is the best Civ in the whole series and Colonization build on the same engine etc. Needless to say that I was huge fan of the original Colonization
Its out today, I am gonna swing by Circuit City and pick up a copy, its on sale there for $24.99
I played the first one back in 1995 and it stole 3-4 months of my life
I gotta say...StarDock really manages to ruin other games.
I own pretty much every game Sid Meier has slapped his name on, and for the longest time was the benchmakr by which I judged 4x games. Were it not for GalCiv, this would still be true, and I woulda said that Civilization IV: Colonization was great. As is, I am only seeing the flaws right now. 2K Games' site has a dead link to the game, Firaxis has a "meh, here's the game" approach to releasing it, and I'm having a dickens of a time even finding anyone talking about it online.
If this were a SD game, there would have been developer walk-thorughs, online resources, previews, insider info and more - months in advance of the game.
Damnit, 2K/Firaxis! I'm bored and at work where I can't play- I want that stuff!
Check out the CivFanatics forum... lots of people talking about CivIV: Colonization there.
PC Gamer (USA) magazine has a review in its recently released "November" 2008 issue.
Yep...and a lot of them are saying exactly what I discovered after playing the part of the weekend - It's not that great.
I've been reading everything I can about CivIV: Col since it's release.
There appears to be some game issues (mechanics) upon release in this game, but the forums are almost polarized by widely opposing player reviews of the game.
People either love it or hate it, it seems.
Some are saying that it was a rushed release and buggy, while others concede that there are a few issues, but should be easily fixed with a sure to follow patch and that the game is essentially playable now right out of the box.
I'll continue to follow the progress of this game and see what develops after a month or so, or when the latest patch from Firaxis appears.
I think at it's core, it looks to be a wonderfully challenging tbs game requiring more focused attention on micromanagement than say one would use in CivIV (BTS) for example.
