Question about the new "Entrenchment" expansion pack? Perhaps we can get them answered here!
Full expansions normally include an additional faction. Is that in the works as well? And will it be available as a part of one of the micro-expansions?
So... I don't think so. I seem to remember IrconClad officially said no awhile back
I didn't see anyone complnaing about starbases, more the fact they have to pay actual MONEY for them. How can they be popular in mordern society if they PAY for things?!?
Well would you rather see IC make it free, and then see IC go out of business and never see a patch again? I don't think so. IC has never release new content "for free," just patches that balanced things.
Umm you did notice the sarcasim in that post right...? I'm happy to pay for stuff.
Sarcasm fails when your typing....it only really works when you are actually SPEAKING...
Lets see, 9.99 for about 1/3 of what we get in a 29.99 expansion pack at retail... continued support and revamping of the code we currently enjoy... 3 mini expansions in total, each focussing on a few specific mechanics... a larger expansion and/or a full-fledged sequel in the future... a good company whose continued activities I wish to support... responsive developers to even the most negatively positted concerns... one Hell of a fun game... potential future subjects of single-player campaign and new factions...
Umm, yes, I`ll support that. Matter of fact I`ve already pre-ordered.
At some point I *do* want a hold-in-hand compilation disc, but other than that I simply look forward to more.
Guess I'll wait till these micro expansions are in one box, cause I'm not much for buying stuff online and I don't have paypal or a bank account :/ .
How will this affect the Online Multiplayer aspects of the game? It might be nice to get a radically improved user interface for online play, but then again, with so few people playing the game online perhaps it wouldn't be worth the effort.
I might consider buying the expansion pack if it has a positive effect on online multiplayer. I am sighing a little bit though as I think back to the good old days of Unreal Tournament when Epic Games released numerous patches and bonus packs containing additional maps, for free.
steam is good when they update stuff for free. as long as its the same game like say counterstrike . but you might have a split on community multiplayer games because some might have the patch some might not and some might wait for the whole thing is released.
i just love how the auto enable and disable of patching is available when people join the game without the patch. that way i'm pretty sure that i'm not going to wait for 30minutes to get people in my game that has patch, instead i'll just start the game whenever its full or just name the game title you are hosting patch only or first come first serve game :_).
Well, perhaps you can also remember that IC did the same thing with Sins on both counts
Ok,then,i feel much relieved now.
I'll just wait for the major expansion to be released then.Still,i think that these micro expansion can be release for free to the community but seeing what you guys have done for the 1.1 beta patch,i think it's time to pay up for some starbase then.
How long will it take to release all 3 micro expansion?
Around next summer, I think.
What about the promised campaign?
As for the three expansions I have no problem with it if the new stuff is worth $9.99 each time. At the moment it all sounds a bit vague to say anything about it. Are we able to skip expansions if we don't like them and just run expansion 2 for example?
Expansion 1: I think Starbases only have a narrow use in Sins, especially in multiplayer games. I never wanted something like this in a game except for looking cool and such. If the starbase somehow extends to adjacent wellsI could see a good use for them though.
Expansion 2: I hope we'll get not only new diplomacy options but a new system. It could improve singleplayer games a lot.
Expansion 3: New ships etc. We'll see.
and again: What about the singleplayer campaign?
Wow, Craig Fraser, Stardock and Ironclad, relax!
If you'll announce that a new day has come, people will complain. If you'll announce this night is falling, people will complain.
People, as a whole, are annoying ungrateful bunch, especially forum dwellers, and especially gamers, and even more so if they are told that they have to pay for something.
Please pay no attention to these whiners, keep up the great work, you guys are amazing and help brighten my day with your beautiful piece of software.
As for me, Entrenchment is already pre-oredered (As will be the two other expansions as soon as they will be available for pre-ordering)
I can't agree with the sentiments of some previous very negative posters however I would like to post concerns regarding the announcement.
Expansion packs for me are normally a way to get me playing a game I like but never pick up anymore. I love Sins but I rarely play it, not because I don't enjoy playing it, it's just each game doesn't feel new enough anymore to keep my interest.
Will adding a few new defencive options to planets be enough to spark my interest? It's very unlikely. Normally with RTS expansions it is new races, new ways of playing the game and different aspects to the game (such as stealth, ship boarding as examples that pop in my head) that breath new life in to a well stepped road.
I will be watching to see what will be available from these micro expansions but I have to admit I'm not excited by the announcement.
For comparison I bought every single Dawn of War expansion but didn't buy any of the micro updates you could buy for Battlefield 2.
So don't buy the thing and move on, damn it.
It's not like this is Bethesda's Horse Armor crap where you pay 5 bucks for a simple piece of graphic change, this is an actual gameplay-altering enhancment. Most expansion packs don't even offer that, at full $30 price tag. And two others like it are coming our way.
This behavior is not helping anyone but yourselves and is really ungrateful of you. The more companies deliver the more you demand, and that's just not right.
But what am I saying, you won't stop, you never do. In fact, this message will most likely fuel your whines even more.
However, you are not at fault here, no. The fault here is Ironclad's for getting insulted because of your nonsense and paying you annoying nay-sayers any type of attention when in fact so many people are at least content, not to mention extremely happy with your expansions-model.
I'm glad somebody finally pointed out the price equivalencies... most expansion packs run for about $30 these days, and as someone mentioned back on the first page, it doesn't make business sense to package each of the micro-expansions individually, with a box and a manual and shipping and so forth. If it makes anyone feel any better, just think of the micro-expansions as pre-release goodies to the supposedly imminent "full expansion."
I for one can't wait for the campaign. There's all this potential with the Vasari's ancient nemesis and the strife between the Advent and TEC... not to mention the decidedly kickass opening cinematic. It's all very exciting.
@Gormoth1
I'm providing feedback, the forums are a valid place to do so.
I am being offered a product, don't see why I need to be grateful.
I'm not demanding, I'm providing feedback.
The reason the sort of message you post 'fuels' people like me is that you are trying to drown out my feedback as not relevant. My opinion is as valid as yours because I have spoken the truth and was a potential customer for Ironclads future products. What I post isn't nonsense and I'm sorry your small brain can only consider it as such. I just hope that Ironclad are able to see constructive feedback, good or bad, inbetween unnecessary flaming.
FYI the reason I, and others provide feedback is that I hope that Ironclads future products cater to what I would like to buy. If someone else has different hopes I would not dare to attempt to drown out what they are saying as nonsense. The feeback that I provide, I would hope, is appreciated by Ironclad, as any half decent company would listen to it's customers, so in fact it is you who is not helping anyone. There is a great deal of difference between what I have said and previous posts that accuse Ironclad of being greedy etc. I emplore you to consider that before posting on the subject again.
Will these micro expansions cost 10 $ for everyone or will the Europeans get a slap in the face an have to pay 10 €?
Stardock only charges in US dollars. So no, you won't get a slap in the face
No, homeworld 2 is the fleet simulator in enders game. Anyway back to soase. HI CRIAG!(goes into fangirl mode) Anyway(back to normal) I think the price is actually reasonable. Remember that Ironclad is still an independent developer. They dont have the large capital flow that the other companies have. They have to make do with the profits from sins. I would preorder the micro expansion now but I dont gots no credit card
Will the other micro-expansions require previous micro-expansions, too? So, for expansion #2, will you need Entrenchment? Obviously being able to pick and choose would be wonderful, but I could also see making that tough for development.
From the announcement, it sounds like pick and choose. I think having them tied in to each other would sort of defeat the purpose of micro expansions as IC/SD sees it
