This is the "Release" topic for the SoA 2 mod. Candidate for Mod Database's 2008 Mod of the Year.
SoA 2 0.03b adds the unified Dominion (with Cardassian, and Breen units) as a playable faction. It is the second part of the 0.03 series. You do not need 0.03a3 to play it. The 0.03b is complete. Delete any previous version of the mod and replace with the new version. This is still a "Ships Only" Release. Structures, Defenses, Research, and Ability's are schedualed for the 0.04 update.
The SoA 2 "Work in progress" topic is here https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/173883 All News, and updates will be posted there. Any non known issue bugs post over there.
Here is the Mod Database page. You can download the mod from here. http://www.moddb.com/mods/star-trek-sacrifice-of-angels-2 If the download is not there yet. It is still processing. Keep checking. It takes a while for ModDB to process new files
Here is an alternate download link for 0.03b. The link will be removed when ModDB has the file up. http://files.filefront.com/SoA+2+003bzip/;12933985;/fileinfo.html
SoA 2 0.03b "The Second Dominion War" is the second of a two part release of 0.03. All four main factions are playable. We merged Manshooters Volumetric Explosions mod into SoA 2. While still a demo we are no longer going to use the term, because SoA 2 is starting to shape up into a full blown total conversion.
You MUST be running Sins version 1.1, 1.11, or 1.12 to play the mod. It will NOT WORK ON ENTRENCHMENT! or any other Sins beta. It also will not work on any versions of Sins before version 1.1
Read the Readme file for important installation instructions.
If you have an older version of SoA 2 just delete it from your mods folder, and replace it with the new version.
For best results install the SoA 2 mod on a clean install of latest update of Sins of a Solar Empire (version 1.12 as of this release).
Before you run the game for the first time after a clean install of Sins. Delete the "Ironclad Games" folder in c:\documents and settings\"your user name"\local settings\application data\. For Vista users its C:\Users\"your user name"\AppData\Local\. BACK UP any other mods, and screenshots BEFORE you do this. This will ensure there are no stray older version, and/or beta files are in your sins installation.
Disable "Ship Mesh Highlight Filter" in your options\effects Otherwise you will see some wierd lighting problems with modded ships. We have not had time to adapt the modded ships to use this feature yet.
Disable any and all Team Color settings. There is a bug in how Sins renders team color in 1.1. It affects both the mod, and the default sins models. The Team Colors bleed through on the entire mesh. Both vanilla game ships, and modded ships are affected by this. Ironclad switched the specular, and team color shaders with the 1.1+ updates, but it seems like they failed to implement the code to render them correctly. Turn team color on and off to see for yourself. The mod doesnt use team colors anyway so you do not need this feature enabled. Ill post a bug report about this later.
The mod has been tested only on the US English version of sins. Other languages may, or may not work. If you are using a language other than English rename the "English.str" file in the mods strings folder to whatever language you are useing. Example: "German.str" if you are using the German language version.
Future planned updates:
SoA 2 0.04 will concentraite on adding all of the factions proper Research trees, Ability's, Structures, Defenses, and balance tweaks if needed.
SoA 2 0.05 will be the final spit, and polish of the mod before going into the final version. Anything that we couldnt get to do in the previous versions will be done here. Model, and texture tweaks, effects, sounds, more balancing, etc. will be all be refined if needed.
Enjoy the latest release of SoA 2

Deutsch:
Im Pfad "..\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods\SoA 2\String\" die Datei "English.STR" kopieren und die Kopie in "German.STR" umbenennen.
Sollte auch für jede andere Sprache klappen.
English:
Make a copy of "English.STR" located in the path "..\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods\SoA 2\String\" and rename the copy to "German.STR".
Should work for every other language, too.
sry, doublepost -.-
I got it working and i have to say that the federation ships look great. You know what would be cool the BORG.
The ships are really detailed and the only thing this mod needs now are structures.
But all in all this is the best. To be honest this makes star trek armada 2 look like a mod rather than a proper game.
People really need to learn some reading skills.
Structures wont come until the full mod. Full ship lineups are being worked on right now, but wont be released until much later when the full mod is ready. There will be only ONE more demo update, and that wont happen until after patch 1.1, and its forge tools released. The new Sins expansion is going to toss yet another monkey wrench in the works.
Giving the benefit of the doubt that people didnt read the old SoA2 thread i will repeat it here. There will be NO BORG IN SOA 2. At least not until after i finish with the existing Dominion War factions. After all this is a Dominion War era mod. Then and only then will i consider adding them, and if turns out to be too much of a pain in the ass to add them in then it aint happening.
All of these posts of "Why dont you do this?", and "Why dont you do that?", and "It would be cool if this retarded way IMBA race was in", or "This Ugly, Non-Canon, Way Wrong freaking era, fanboy ship would be awesome in game!".. Lets not forget the "Waaaaah, Why isnt my favorette ship in the mod?!" This does get kind of annoying even though i have been there, done that, got the t-shirt with the original SoA. The support for the mod is tremendous, but think before you post guys.
I have a vision for this mod, and i am sticking with it. My shiplist is set in stone. I think most of you will like it. There are some non-canon units on that list. However i carefully hand picked those units, because they made sense, and weren't some stupid looking fanboy design. The Federation will have all of its ship slots filled with canon units. The Prometheus will NOT be one of them. So dont ask. Absolutly NOTHING from the Enterprise era will be used. If there is a Ship, Race, Weapon, Sound, Color, or Whatever other nit picky thing you dont like, or want in the mod. Then learn how to mod! Change it, Remove it, or Add it yourself. If you dont like the direction SoA 2 is going. Then dont play the mod.. It is that simple.
The demo's shiplist is staying as is. No furthur ships are going to be added to the demo version of the mod.
Fighters may not be in the mod due to the problems Sins has with mod strike craft. I keep meeting with failure whenever i try to mod in hanger points. Even with the recent forge tools the fighters spawn in the middle of nowhere. Doesnt matter where i place the hanger point, or what direction i point it. It is outside the mesh, and not touching it. IF fighters do make it in the mod then ALL ships, and structures with weapons will be able to shoot them down.
Dont build hanger defenses. Only the Cardassians, and one Federation ship has weapons that can target fighters right now. I havent got to the rest of the factions yet. If you want to, look up the phasers, and disruptors in the ships entity files, and change the "Can Target Fighters" from FALSE to TRUE. Eventually all ships will have their own anti-strike craft weapons.
Hey Major Stress, Would you be willing to add in a ready-made BORG faction if it were constructed independently, without you having to do any of the hard stuff???
No
Liked Stress's answer: "NO"
Comeon fellas like the Cylon's Major Stress has a plan! Can we at least give the man the courtesy of finishing his creation? Lets not all get in line to strangle the Golden Goose!
How's that BORG FACTION GOING????!!!
Let me know when you have a good update. I'll host it again for you. To hell with moddb and its ilk. They are only out to profit at modders expenses and do an end run around IPR.
One day I will run my own forum, and in order to create an account will first have to pass a reading comprehension test.
New archive corrupted? I've tried downloading the SoA_2_Demo_001b 3 times now and every time I try to extract the file, it gets about 10% or so done and then winzip "stops working" (I love Vista ) I also tried just the standard extractor that vista has and it also crashed at the same moment.
@NowhereDan - I love the idea!
@ HybridTheory - Are you using any program such as Download Acclerator to DL the zip? I know FileFront doesn't like download software and will interrupt the DL sometimes. Double check and make sure it's a full 145,575,834 bytes (138MB).
No download accelerator... running everything on a fresh Vista 32 Home Premium install here.
The first original beta mod downloaded fine, although it wouldn't run (gave me a mini-dump anytime i tried to load the mod in SINS 1.05 also fresh install)
File size is 145,575,834 bytes (138MB) and I just downloaded it again one more time and tried it to no avail.
Ok as a follow up, I downloaded it fine to my gf's computer (XP) and am going to transfer the files to a memory stick and copy them onto my computer. Dont know why mine was having such a problem with the archive but hopefully I can get this working
OK at the risk of annoying everyone here, everything works now! Dont know why I had issues with downloading it directly... but what matters most is things are working perfectly now... once agian, Stress and team, wonderful work here! Keep it up!!
Must be Vista .
In any case, glad to hear it's working!
Nope, I downloaded it fine on Vista 64 last night, and if it works on 64, it will almost certainly work fine on 32.
i'm on vista, works fine
Make sure you do NOT have any 1.09 beta files in your game. Do a clean install of 1.05, and delete the Ironclad Games folder like it says on the main header. and the readme. You may have to re-download 1.05 from Impulse. If you do so make sure you have "show pre-release versions" unchecked in your impulse options.
The mod works on way too many systems for it to be an issue with the mod itself. I run it only with Developer exe from the forge tools now, and i get zero errors. The 3 known issues of people having trouble with the mod are
1) Two instances of the SoA 2 folder in the mods directory. One folder inside of the other. Move all of the mod files to the main SoA 2 folder, and delete the second SoA 2 folder. There can be only ONE SoA 2 (immitating highlander)
2) People trying to run it on the 1.09 beta version of the game. Bad idea.. All this will do is introduce you to a warp speed trip back to your desktop. Get rid of the 1.09 files as per the instructions listed.
3) The mod file became corrupt during your download. In which case just re-download it. The file is up at ModDB now. Try to download it from there, or from 1Spartans link when i get it.
No worries... i think there might be a problem with downloading the mod on my machine (something on my end) but I got to a work around and as i said, things are A-OK
Nice screens
I noticed that the Klingons need a nerf bat badly. Until demo 0.02 is released go ahead, and edit the stats to numbers you feel comfortable with. Only the modded entity files were left in text format just for that purpose. Open them with wordpad, and knock yourself out.
Yeah, the Klingons and the Feds are the powerhouses right now. I tried to play a game as the poor Cardassians, and now I know why the war between the Klingons and Cardassians in season 4 of DS9 only lasted a few days! Those guys need a boost to their rate of fire, if nothing else.
stress were there any fighters at all used by any races in star trek. I mean real carrier based fighters like the ones in the sins defence hangars? Just thinking that hangar defences may need to be something else more like, frigate defences?
I will leave the balance up to you, but I am hoping to see the relative power from cannon ships stay roughly like it should be.
Great stuff
