This is the "Release" topic for the SoA 2 mod. Candidate for Mod Database's 2008 Mod of the Year.
SoA 2 0.03b adds the unified Dominion (with Cardassian, and Breen units) as a playable faction. It is the second part of the 0.03 series. You do not need 0.03a3 to play it. The 0.03b is complete. Delete any previous version of the mod and replace with the new version. This is still a "Ships Only" Release. Structures, Defenses, Research, and Ability's are schedualed for the 0.04 update.
The SoA 2 "Work in progress" topic is here https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/173883 All News, and updates will be posted there. Any non known issue bugs post over there.
Here is the Mod Database page. You can download the mod from here. http://www.moddb.com/mods/star-trek-sacrifice-of-angels-2 If the download is not there yet. It is still processing. Keep checking. It takes a while for ModDB to process new files
Here is an alternate download link for 0.03b. The link will be removed when ModDB has the file up. http://files.filefront.com/SoA+2+003bzip/;12933985;/fileinfo.html
SoA 2 0.03b "The Second Dominion War" is the second of a two part release of 0.03. All four main factions are playable. We merged Manshooters Volumetric Explosions mod into SoA 2. While still a demo we are no longer going to use the term, because SoA 2 is starting to shape up into a full blown total conversion.
You MUST be running Sins version 1.1, 1.11, or 1.12 to play the mod. It will NOT WORK ON ENTRENCHMENT! or any other Sins beta. It also will not work on any versions of Sins before version 1.1
Read the Readme file for important installation instructions.
If you have an older version of SoA 2 just delete it from your mods folder, and replace it with the new version.
For best results install the SoA 2 mod on a clean install of latest update of Sins of a Solar Empire (version 1.12 as of this release).
Before you run the game for the first time after a clean install of Sins. Delete the "Ironclad Games" folder in c:\documents and settings\"your user name"\local settings\application data\. For Vista users its C:\Users\"your user name"\AppData\Local\. BACK UP any other mods, and screenshots BEFORE you do this. This will ensure there are no stray older version, and/or beta files are in your sins installation.
Disable "Ship Mesh Highlight Filter" in your options\effects Otherwise you will see some wierd lighting problems with modded ships. We have not had time to adapt the modded ships to use this feature yet.
Disable any and all Team Color settings. There is a bug in how Sins renders team color in 1.1. It affects both the mod, and the default sins models. The Team Colors bleed through on the entire mesh. Both vanilla game ships, and modded ships are affected by this. Ironclad switched the specular, and team color shaders with the 1.1+ updates, but it seems like they failed to implement the code to render them correctly. Turn team color on and off to see for yourself. The mod doesnt use team colors anyway so you do not need this feature enabled. Ill post a bug report about this later.
The mod has been tested only on the US English version of sins. Other languages may, or may not work. If you are using a language other than English rename the "English.str" file in the mods strings folder to whatever language you are useing. Example: "German.str" if you are using the German language version.
Future planned updates:
SoA 2 0.04 will concentraite on adding all of the factions proper Research trees, Ability's, Structures, Defenses, and balance tweaks if needed.
SoA 2 0.05 will be the final spit, and polish of the mod before going into the final version. Anything that we couldnt get to do in the previous versions will be done here. Model, and texture tweaks, effects, sounds, more balancing, etc. will be all be refined if needed.
Enjoy the latest release of SoA 2

When I deleted the iron clad folder now whenever I install it again it doesnt work and the only thing in the SSE folder is Setting...
The sins forums are screwing up so this may turn into a double post.
You need to run the vanilla game at least once so Sins can create a new Ironclad Games folder, and subfolders to replace the ones you deleted. Start a quick 2 player game, and redo all of your settings. All the folders should be replaced after you exit the game.
0.03b is up. The Dominion are playable now. They are balanced, The placeholder models are done, and the UI is done. They are still using vanilla sins voiceovers and Federation music. That will be dealt with later.
I was forced to release what i have now, because i have to move tommorow, and where i am going has no internet access.. not even wireless.
I do not know how long ill be without internet. It could be weeks. It could be months. This move is for my RL job so i have no choice. In any case i wont be able to respond if there are any issues. During my blackout time ill be working on 0.04. While i am away Darkshimmer will be in charge until i get some internet access. I will be checking up if i am able to use a puter that has internet.
dominion faction seem a little underpowered. I suspect it haven t been balanced yet. Or it just seems to me, i havent played long with them...
This keeps crashing for me, mini dumps within about 10 min of play.
Well you are having more luck than I am. I cant even get this mod running.......... The weird part is that I can get other mods to run. No problems at all.
I hve a clean install
I have the latest patch
I deleted the folder as instructed
I have installed the game in english. No other language. Both string files match
Game starts
When I try to enable mod... it crashes and gives me a mini dump..
Sooo if anyone has any idea as to what is causing this, please tell me
You have the most recent version of the mod I imagine?
Yes. And ive tried downloading it three times just to make sure it wasnt corrupt or anything..
did you make sure that you extracted the folder correctly?
Latest version installed, 1.12 patch installed, followed all instructions, mod crashes sins.
You can't really screw up extracting files, especially when all previous version worked fine.
a question about balancing: I have played with every faction and they are more or less similar in strength (hull, shield, weapon power) but the dominion is much weaker. Their capital ships have very low hull and shield strength, and weapon damage is under 50 or so. Also the "cruiser section" ships are much weaker, except breen mwpg. It seems that only the ships from a "figate section" are balanced.
are those the finall stats or the domonion is going to be rebalanced?
You can find more info on this in the WIP thread. Those aren't the stats the dominion are supposed to have judging from what Shimmer said. This will probably be fixed soon.
I don't actually work for them btw, so if any info in this is wrong blame me lol.

I don't suppose that update works for SoA2 0.03b as well?
Or is it really for 0.03b and its just a typo?
The download itself is named 0.03c, so I'm assuming its an update to 0.03b, but I want to be sure.
yea it is my mistake thanks for pointing it out, its been corrected now
Still getting mini dump.
you need to send the mini dump to ironclad. there is an email somewhere in the forums to send it to. just telling me you get a minidump doesn't help.
hey guys.... uh im a mod noob, how do i open the file i saved it un compressed it wheres the start button on the thing? actually i need help running the whole thing i have no idea what to do. please help me tell me ever step I need to do so it will run on my comp
In my computer go to the top, tools > folder options > view, and check show hidden files. Then go to your main drive or wherever sins is installed, my computer > C: > documents and settings > user name > local settings > application data > ironclad games > sins of a solar empire > mods, put the containing folder in there, make sure you don't have an SoA folder inside and SoA folder. In other words make sure the SoA folder going in there is the containing folder for the game info and whatnot. Then you can enable it in sins options at the main sins menu.
That's only the path for XP. If you're on vista it might be similar but I don't know it.
How will e-mailing it to ironclad help?
They're the ones who know what it means and can tell you why you're getting it from the info contained in it.
Yeah, they will probably tell me to remove the mod.
I am getting mini dump as well I will see about emailing ironclad
I'm playing the SoA2 mod and it's great! Everything seems to be working well. The only problem I have is that the race names that show up in-game are the Sins default ones (Trade Coalition, Provians, etc). Is this normal or did I somehow mess up my installation?
It's normal.
Thanks. Is there a way to mod this? I've been playing around with the files and coundn't figure it out so far.
