Texturing

I'm making a few ships and i was wondering how do you make textures for them? I know DanMan and other people have made some really good textures how do they do it?

 Note: I am using Xsi Mod tool

You just make the textures in the 2D drawing program of your choice (Photoshop, etc). You'll export the UV map from the modeler and use that as a basis to paint on so you know what's going where on the model.

this may be sort of a noob question but how do you export the UV map on xsi mod tool?

I haven't used it myself, so I couldn't say. I do believe there's a tutorial around here somewhere, or I'm sure you can find one on google if not.

Here is my tutrial, it should cover all the basics and explain how to do UV maps and then the textures them selfs, and so on.

no problem hopes the Tutrials helps. I still need to do final proofreading on it, but no time on that at the moment.
