Not yet actually. Only quotes with the new author/post info on them have issues. If you remove that or just highlight the text to quote manually, it will use the old style.
The new forum changes are pretty lame, but the previous changes started out as badly, and they gradually fixed things. I assume that this will be the case with these changes as well. The new emoticons and quotes in particular I find very annoying. Medals I can take or leave. Knowing I have them is enough.
Moving the site would not be good for the MVL, as VegJed said. Our visibility here is what attracts new participants and stokes awareness of the League.
Just testing the quote function...
edit: Still doesnt work for me apparently. Maybe because I'm on IE when at work.
2nd edit: Ah, that worked. Thanks Kryo.
Sentient species taste better...
{quote}
{quote}Blah, Blah, Blah{/quote}
Quoted response to Blah, Blah, Blah{/quote}
The above works but it you attempt to follow the above with another quote like the following.
{quote}Blah2, Blah2, Blah2{/quote}
Then the initial {/quote} tag gets ignored and the entire sequence gets globbed into one giantic quote.
Also what's up with carriage returns? Someone must have set double space mode. And editing is very sporadic.
The forum changes are annoying but Like KP says I'm sure they'll get worked out. I find the bigger problem to be the takeover of forums.GalCiv2.com by Impulse and Off Topic forum posts cross posted from other now more popluar sites. There doesn't seem to be much we can do about this but I do encourage all GalCiv2 folks to try and weather the storm and hope for better times ahead.
I would of liked to have seen the score you could of pulled off Mumble .
Great Job to all that made it through this rather difficult round
So, when are the scores forthcoming?
Here they are:
Team A - 8 points (6 base, 2 fastest team submission)
Team B - 9 points [6 base, 2 individual fastest games (JustinSane & Ferrel), 1 individual score (JustinSane)]
Team C - 6 (6 base)
Team D - 12 [6 base, 2 average team speed, 1 individual score & 1 individual speed (KzintiPatriarch), 1 average team score, 1 average team submission]
Team E - 12 [6 base, 1 individual score & 1 individual speed (Neilo), 1 individual score (DethAdder), 1 average team speed, 2 average team score, ]
Congratulations to all the teams, and to Teams D & E for tying for first place for the round!
Congratulations to the league for getting through a round made difficult for a lot of different reasons. This was probably the toughest round to get through and I'm glad it was successful. From here on out it should get a bit easier.
Thanks KP . I usually do a little checking and have an idea of the results, but I was flying blind this time .
Oh yea. YAY! for the Eternal Villainy
Ok no edit, and what's up with the pics not coming up . First time I tried one since the downgrade in the above post and I see nothing . Of course I know I'll be able to edit the above post after submitting this one, what buggy fun
Edit: Wow! They changed it I can edit this one now instead lol. ANd got the pic finally
Congratulations all. Good fun and a learning experience as well.
Congrats everyone.
The current standings for Season 3 of the League:
KP, think we could get a more detailed breakdown of how the points were distributed?
also i want to be sure that all games a team submits were considered for BPs, including avg. submission time.
I'll have to type this out....I cant get photobucket to function when I'm at work for some reason. It just keeps endlessly reloading.
average team speed: A - 3.60, B - 3.75, C - 4.00, D- 3.00, E - 3.33
average team score: A - 8704, B - 11188, C - 7760, D - 12580, E - 15980
average team submission time - A - 5.80, B - 13.00, C - 10.67, D - 6.67, E - 9.33
round average score: 10957
round average speed: 3.56
round average difficulty level: 10.28 (between masochistic & obscene)
thanks KP, that satisfies my curiosity perfectly!
For future rounds I'll post screenshots of my entire spreadsheet. I've got it so everything calculates automatically, including the season standings.
Thanks from me too for the extra info. I'm a stat hound
Sounds like you really got it together (<--that smiley scares me, it's the eyes )
OK, the items on the Agenda are as follows:
Agenda Item #1: The Vice Commissioner Elections, currently I have accepted and approved the bids by Dystopic and JustinSane4 for the position of Vice Commissioner. If any other individual that meets the requirements that I set forth (can only nominate themselves, and must have completed 2 full rounds in the MVL, Round 10 excluded) wants to place their bid, now is the time. Otherwise, elections will begin later this week (maybe Thurs, definitely Friday at the latest)
Edit Agenda #2 will be backl later
sorry i could not do this round i had studing to do DAMM that SAT. Damm You Damm you. ohh well mybe next round.
I take it you revising what I saw posted earlier? It sounded well thought out and at first glance very workable.
yeah... i annoyed SB with my reply (over IM) to his ideas, but for now i'll leave it at that.
so.....coming back to Agenda Item #2....
I want to get MVL members opinions as how to proceed with the MVL; with the GC forums in what seems to be continual upheaval (not necc. bad, just lack of stability); little or slow growth in amount of GC players due to no more expansions, and GC III not out this decade; and finally, the near constant 'bleeding' of players from our ranks...
i have four proposals
1) The status quo: we keep going just as we are, until whatever happens.
2) We dissolve the MVL on a high note, take pride that we accomplished something wonderful, and congratulate each other on a game well played.
3.) We add some minor changes, game selections, in the hopes of drumming up interest.
4.) Or, like the NinjaEdit proposal I had that DA saw briefly, we do a complete overhaul.
Thoughts?
Keeping players in this game itself at this capacity, without any more expansions for the next 1.5 years minimum will be a feat by Stardock. GCIII not containing a MV will be another bump in the road. The loss of players in the MVL is also a byproduct of the height of GC2 being past now that TA is out and nothing remaining for GCII's future in THAT sort of change.
I personally am not aware of any other reasons why people have 'bled' from the ranks and I'm fairly sure that if it's anything to do w/ the people or such, I'd prefer to not know. Ignorace is bliss?
Being a newcomer to the MVL, I'm leaning on #1 for a bit longer. Perhaps if someone is feeling frisky, they could plan out a complete propsal for #4 in the mean time.
My only gripe that I can foresee is the lacking of the victory condition of Ascension being picked due to it missing from DL/DA. Maybe sometime we could have a mini non-counted round for the TA players to have some discussions on it and such.
I'll second what Loupdinour wrote.
well if it isn't obvious i've already discussed my thoghts with SB, so here i'll repeat them.
i'm more in favor of route 3 at this time. i'm not opposed to a radical overhaul as such, however i didn't personally care for SB's original proposal. i thought it resulted in too little emphasis on teams.
some of the ideas i'd suggested along the lines of introducing more minor changes included:
- have a round on a large map (with spare settings);
- have an "all editions" round in which a team had to submit at least one game from DL, DA and TA (presuming we ensured that each team had at least one person who owns TA and one other who owns DA);
- add alignment as a setting criteria;
- add race restrictions, not neccessarily requiring people to play a certain race, but maybe divide races into groups, and restrict submissiosn to one group, or require one submission from each group;
- play with mods and use altmeta scores.
bottom line, no matter what, is that those of us who are left need to be enthusiastic about continuing the league. i'd be okay to retire it in all honesty, if that's the direction the wind blows. before we consider what to do, i think we need to get a sense of how many players we'll have. regardless of what i feel about any changes, i'm committed to the MVL for at least a few more rounds.
Well im torn between 1 and 4. As i said earlier, in the MVL's current guise i wont be participating...due to SD and their "updates" but also i think we have taken the team "thing" to its zenith.
I would hate for the MVL to die slowly and just be forgotten but as the saying goes "it is best to go out whilst your on top". I know we are a bit past our "top" but to bow out now we could still go out with some dignity instead of dragging the carcass (damn SD not supporting FF anymore...there goes my spell checker..) of the MVl along for a few more rounds and it dying due to not enough support.
That said, i think 1 and 4 could go hand in hand....the MVL in its current form dies. But in it's place a more tournament style game, similar to what wyndstar was running originally....loosen the strings a little, take the team aspect out and open up the map sizes.....
I think the tourneys Wyndstar was running..and Purge too IIRC, would make for a good blueprint for a revised league. Throw in some of our rules/settings and we might have a winner.
If we do this now we at least have some numbers to give it a try...no point trying to fix the league when there is no-one left to play...
My two cents....
