Master of magic, stardocks next fantasy game

Does anybody have news on the next fantasy game that stardock will be making? Or was it a rumour?

 

A possible release date, or what will be in the game and so on?

I don't believe it was just a rumor but with the recent release of TA and then Political Machine the team jut hasnt gotten to this new game.

We are working on a fantasy 4x strategy game, but it is not a MoM sequel. We haven't yet announced the name.

SAdly I remember quite a few months back, that it didnt work out between Stardock and whomever has the rights to MoM. Sad, because Stardock would have done it right I know...no doubts in my mind at all! Dont remember the post it was in, but i think Stardock even had a poll asking people what game they would want them to remake, and I believe that MoM was the winner! Too bad, because I loved MoM, but I know if Stardock does one it will be fun and done right! Wow I sound like a kiss ass...lol...sorry didnt mean to...

Was it Sony who ended up owning Microprose? Fools, whoever they are.

Anywho, I'm sure I'm not the only one around here who seriously hopes that the new Stardock title is a succesor in spirit if not in trademarked names.

MoM lovers: if you had to pick one functional aspect of the game that you wanted to see emulated in the new Stardock project, what would it be?

I hate that sort of question, but I'd probably say the mirror-map thing. Especially if they add a third layer so some nodes need a "Which Realm" spell to opearate and others are only visible on two out of three maps.

I particularly liked being a big mage that can cast map affecting spells, army summoning etc. You know, being a powerful entity that is not completely tied to the city/production infrastructure. (though that is, of course, where most of you magical power comes from)

Effectively: being a mage who has races/cities/etc. working for him, rather than just being a civilisation leader with units/buildings that do magic stuff. It's what really set MoM apart from just being Civilization with fantasy flavouring.

I loved making magical items and thus the artificier. Was great making weapons for my heroes to use. Used to love being the humans and starting in Myrran(other realm name...might be wrong) and finding admantite and building pallys haha. Would march thru stuff in a hurry. Course then again, anything built by an adamant mine was awesome.

I also loved the heroes you could recruit. I hope they have many of them and not limit it to just a few. Theres so much they could expand on and make a huge hit. Also, must be multiplayer haha. I know there was a way you could hot seat with MoM, my friends and I did, but it wasnt perfect. Please make it multi as well.

I always loved the character creation choices you had to make when starting out the game.
Are you going to be an all powerful mage capable of burning armies to death with your magic(or other tide turning magical abilites)
Or are you going to be a shadowy figure commanding your hords of ever expendable warriors into battle.

Then again, maybe something in between.

I highly support the idea i used to have MOM on my old windows 98 and it worked *thank god* i used to love that game if you guys make a game like it i will buy it and love it just try to keep true to the basis of true 4x4 fantasy strategy and preferably try to look into it and age of wonders *1 not 2 2 took away the ability to have any kind of hero* and try to make a great game i for one know will be loved.

I'm sure if the game in made by stardock it will be great.

Is there any possiblitlity to know ball pack figuere when this game might be available?

Is it started at all or is it still on the drawing board.

Depends on what your distinctoin is between "started at all" and "on the drawing board." I guess the simplest answer to your question is Yes (See Kryo's post above)

A while ago, I saw a thread with some preliminary artwork. A search for "fantasy" turns up quite a few hits on the forum, so I couldn't easily find it again. AFAIK, they hope to formally announce the project (give it a public name) later this year.

Yeah I guess my question was not really clear. However you did answer it pretty well.

To be more to the point I was wondering if they are working on the game meaning programing and if pretty much the idea of the game is set, or if they are just gathering information and will start work later.

I am trying to see if we will have the game in 2012 or if we can expect it maybe in 12 months or less.

As you can see I am a fan and can't wait to try it.

I think MoM has a lot of fans out there, due to it being just a fun game to play at the time. Sad to think so many good games people could redo and prolly make good money at it. Why someone doesnt just update MoM and put it out i dont know, but im sure its to do with money.

IIRC, the situation was more about control. Somewhere around here should be some discussion about the MoM brand owners requiring too much control of the project from their marketers. (Apolgies for not having link references)

I'm sad that Stardock isn't able to do "real" follow-up to MoM, but I'm glad that they didn't get themselves tangled up in the nether regions of the game industry bureacracy. Hopefully, the finished project will make those bean-counting control freaks bitterly regret their rejection of Stardock's offer.

Well, Microprose is still around and working on games so maybe...

It was Atari that owned the MoM IP last Stardock offered to buy it. Can't understand why they wouldn't sell it or why they can't go broke and auctioneer out their IPs!
They got so many fantastic IPs in their basement that it annoys me just thinking about it....

Surely Stardock keeps track of Atari and hope for their demise quickly before the fantasy 4x game gets too done.

MoM and MoO are more then likely two of the top three most beloved games from the 90's and I would for SD to get the rights to just one of them.

Ah good old days... there was a very special feeling you get when you banish a rival wizard in MoM... not to mention the item creator! I remember orbiting one entire game around trying to make a Ring of Power...

So if this new 4x fantasy game turns out to be anything like the old MoM, I'll definitely get it.

Looks like remaking old hits (in spirit if not literaly) is in these days. Now if someone would make a sequel to Elite with modern graphics...

I was not thinking remakes in the traditional sense but full on expansion versions.
