This weekend we're back on GalCiv so that we can get an update up hopefully Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
The main thing we're doing is fixing that annoying research behavior where after awhile, the research gets too expensive. What's really ironic is that we added in the new algorithm in response to those who felt research was too cheap. So we made research get correspondingly more expensive near the end of development.
Now, bear in mind, you can change the research rate but we're just not satisfied with the research pacing in the game so twilight will get a tweak to that next week.
Update: Based on feedback in this thread, we're going to expand a bit on what we were going to put into the update to deal with a few additional issues so it won't come out until next week but it'll be a much bigger update.
Rhedd: That'd be Perfect!
Sgsmitty: Yeah, that bugger's still around. We're on it though!
Also (and I'm sorry if these were posted in any other forums) but can you jot down what settings you guys are playing at?
I can see the math getting wonkey on Immense/Slow Tech games, but is occuring with other game setups?
Hmmm...Try extracting them to another folder then copy and pasting them into the 'stardock/totalgaming/gc2/twilight' directory.
Anybody else getting this crash?
I think you are projecting your personal opinions onto a larger canvas.
As you noted the game has received glowing reviews. The players seem to like it. We're not saying the game is perfect but if you think ToA was "really screwed up" let me be the first to say that you should never purchase another product from us ever.
Obviously, we want you to be happy with it. You're a good customer and member of the community. But I really take offense at your argument that ToA is somehow a broken game or whatever when it's not.
The tech cost behavior was something users, like uranium, explicitly requested. Now, you and others may not like the way it played out but it's not a bug. It was intentional. We're changing it based on player feedback.
The other things people have mentioned are simply the result of having added literally hundreds and hundreds of new techs to the game. The game was in a public beta for 6 months. None of us noticed some of the little flaws in there. But I think most people prefer if we put more stuff, even if there's the chance there's some piddly issue with it than to have a lot less stuff that is perfect in every way.
I'm very happy with Twilight of the Arnor. I enjoy playing it. It has a rich gaming experience, the AI plays intelligently, the new game settings create a great deal of replayablity. To act like the game was a huge disaster is just being melodramatic and if anything, makes me less inclined to do updates.
We are always open to feedback, constructive criticism, etc. But I really have an issue with melodrama.
Cari and I changed it back last week.
Uranium, I think it's time we refund you and exile you from the forum. Nearly every post you write is incredibly nasty and has been for months. Simply put, I have no inclination to put up with your attitude.
Moreover, you were the one who led the charge to have research costs be dramatically increased. Now that you got your wish and don't like the result, you lead the charge to flame us.
I think it's time you go away. We don't need or want "customrs" like you.
Gotcha I thought the penalty was an entirely new feature.
Makes me feel better
Yes, they'll now increase at the rate in previous versions.
Let us know how that feels...most of us are vets at this point I like getting new-player feedback.
Sorry, what bug are you referring to? The only one that I know about is the one where you can build a starbase to extend your range and then kill the starbase and keep the traderoute, and I haven't decided how to deal with that yet.
Hi drish,
No problem. We are obviously very passionate about what we make and we think the game turned out really well. And over the months now, we'll keep making it better and better.
