Hey Major, did you watch my tut?I went over that stuff. you just use the raycast selection tools. to select poly's use "U" on the keyboard, you basically just drag / paint the faces you want selected. If that isn't working xsi is having a conflict with your vid card, it's common when people use ati gaming cards with xsi.
Max is still good though...
The link is http://tristangoodes.com/xsitutorial/xsitutorial.htmlJust beware, it takes a while to start. don't be impatient
I have waited 10 minutes, and it doesnt load past the thing saying its loading.
It loads, for some reason it just takes a long time, I'll re-encode it to a quicktime or something when I get a chance...
It took me a while when i tested it too
ok, thank you
It loads fine for me. If you have a slower connection it may take a while, because it is a long tutorial. It is quite good too. Id like to have a copy to look at offline from time to time. Perhaps offer an alternate DL along with the flash.
You may be right about the video card. XSI does have some problems running on my laptop, and i try to do only what is needed to import a ship on it. Sometimes on my camera or user view if i have it set to textured the view disappears if i work with it that way for a long time. I know its cause i have a crap laptop :/
Would you guys prefer a streaming video or a downloadable link?
Also, your stuff may be turning off because the viewports were muted accidentally. It's common with people that are new to xsi. They press something funny and it does it. at the top left of the viewport you'll see an A, B, C, or D in a circle. click on that and uncheck anything that may be checked. Worth a try.
Do both Tristan. flash, and downloadable for slower connection/offline viewing
Will check it out. pretty annoying when the window disappears
Can we get a tutorial to add moving parts on the ship?
Please?
You ships are great
keep up the goo work.
I am a New be when it comes toCreating my own ships (as in have never done it). What programs do you need to put every thing together. To create every thing and then to get it into the game, things like that.
Animations like rotating turrets, and sections arent supported in Sins. Only way someone can do it AFAIK is through particles. Someone tried to do a B5 Omega that way. It looks nice but there are shading issues.
Yeah I was talking about the B5 model. I thought it looked great, what were the shading issues? Was it a big game killer or it just looked funny when it wasn't facing the sun kind of thing?
The stuff i'd like to add to my ships are pretty minor anyways, rotating attenae, satelite dishes, pullsing lights.
I might put something large like that rotating centre piece on the B5 model on a station or something. Is it hard to do? Does it affect performance or is it a minor detail?
To be honest, the amount of realism and immersion that particle effect added was huge. If stations rotated, scout ships satellite dishse moved and hangar lights pullsated it would look totally rad!
(I've got his thread saved but I'm brand new to modelling (the catwalk!) and I haven't got the slightest clue how to do it.. yet)
Bump...
Oh ya can someone tell me an exact link of where to get the exact tool this guy is using please? Thanks
