Hi all.
I had OD running for over one and a half years now and the weather docklet always worked. Since Thursday or Friday it only displays "Weather Information not Available". Is there somenthing wrong with weather.com?
First of all, I love Objectdock. It's better than any other dock program I can find.
ISSUE: I ALWAYS have an "N/A" over the weather docklet. I run Objectdock on two computers and one works fine but on the other, the weather docklet kept failing. It was strange. To make it work, I would close Objectdock after reboot, re-start it and then the weather would work fine. It would never work on a fresh reboot by itself. THEN....
Odd thing... I got my Weather Docklet work fine on every boot/reboot by installing WinPatrol and using it to delay the start up of Objectdock by 40 seconds. Prior to this, the weather NEVER worked without shutting down Objectdock and restarting it. Now....EVRYTIME!
Hope it helps someone else. I was ripping my hair out.....
Just reading my post above...
To further clarify the problem I WAS having:
1) Boot Computer
2) Objectdock starts with boot.
3) Weather Docklet fails - "N/A" over the weather
4) Close Objectdock
5) Re-open Objectdock
6) Doing this process would make my weather work fine.
MY FIX:
1) Install WinPatrol
2) Set a delay-start for Objectdock - at 30 or 40 seconds.
3) Reboot
4) Objectdock starts (delayed) and weather docklet works fine.
Worked for me..... Hope this is clearer.
My problem is I put my zip in and it gives the temp as 84 degrees, well right now in MPLS I wish it was, but it is only 32 degrees. Not very accurate.
Graphicport...I think it's just a fluke that your weather docklet is working with Winpatrol installled. I've been using WinPatrol for some years now and every once in awhile my weather docklet goes on vacation. I actually have 2 different stardockWeather.ocx files ...one is 445kb and the other is 709kb...that I keep in a separate folder in case it stops working. The smaller file works about 99.9% of the time...not sure what the difference is between them but when mine goes wonky all I do is send a copy of the smaller file to my OD folder and it starts working again. And it doesn't happen very often.
On page 2...reply#37 is a link to the smaller file of the StardockWeather.ocx. Try downloading that and see if it works for you. But mouse over the one you currently have in your OD folder first to check the file size...if it's the same (445b) then don't bother. If it's the bigger one (709kb) then try it out. If it does...keep a copy of it somewhere you can access it and then when this happens again just send a copy to your OD folder and it should start working again. Seems it just needs a jump start every once in awhile.
WebGizmos,
Thanks for your input. Yeah, I downloaded that stardockWeather.ocx from page 2. It didn't change anything. It is now the current .ocx that I am running. After hours of working on this, I have concluded that Objectdock loads too fast in my startup. It seems if it loads too early, it gives me N/A. I noticed before I delayed the startup of objectdock, when I would get an N/A over the weather, if I close Objectdock and re-open it, the weather would work fine. For me, it was delaying my objectdock from starting that fixed it. Has worked 100% of the time now since. The weather is correct and everything. I only use WinPatrol to delay the start up of objectdock. I couldnt find any other free program to manage startup items in added seconds.
Hope it helps anyone else. My situation may be unique.

Sorry for reactivating an old post but I just wanted to thank graphicport for posting the solution to the weather docklet issue. Closing objectdock and restarting it resolved my N/A issue.
Thank You graphicport!
