WHAT IS CHASING THE VASARI!!!!!!! if you ask me the only thing that could have done this much damage is if sum one sent a brodcast of the teletubbies ,barney, dora the explorer,and elmo all doing one whacked out christmas speicial
but really what is chasing them if you ask me this should be in the lore section unless they are waiting to unveil it to either make an expansion or maybe a capmeighn patch where you have to fight whatever is chasing the vasari and take back your homeworld or something

while it does say that they fell from within it goes on to say that it was there inner worlds that first fell silent i think it just means that whatever is chasing them decided to go after their home world in order to instill confusion on the other hand it could have been something they made or discovered whatever it was it brought terror to thier empire
I was just playing as the TEC the other day and was screwing around with having way more novialith cannons that anyone ever needs and it got me to thinking
What if the TEC secretly had a crapload of novalith cannons, found the vasari while exploring and let loose
also if the threat didnt cause instanstaneous destruction then why couldnt the vasari under attack send out a message? as advanced as they are havent they figured out cell phones yet?
alternatively that crazy bastard vader is at it again and has yet another death star (shoulda figured out that ones a bad idea by now)

Well, its stated that the Vasari have been on the run for about 10,000 years, so those novas would probly just be glorified Schwerer Gustav at that time
Anyone read Revelation Space? Its the Inhibitors. They woke them. (for those of you who haven't, think halo rings only they are sentient, robotic planets instead of mindless rings of death...)
But in all reality, you have the following options:
1. Nanites: You get enough and via collective computing, you get something that could outsmart you...
2. Genetic Experiment Gone Awry: They intended to create a new subspecies of themselves that was far superior to the originals.
3. Slave Rebellion: By increasing their intelligence to increase production rates, the slaves became too intelligent and bid their time until the Vasari were unprepared and struck.
4. Inhibitors: By discovering the inhibitors, they created something that could destroy them and without Amarantin technology, they could not produce shrouds to protect themselves.
5. Super-Race: Perhaps they stumbled across a gate used by said race and because that race realizes that they are close to creating a weapon that could rival their own, they decide to crush the Vasari.
6. Virus: By using a custom virus to assassinate an official, some scientist accidentally created something that could kill the entire race.
I think I know this one!
Here's my idea, SUPPORTED BY GAME FILES. YES. I DID SAY THAT.
In Annatar11's post on custom cap ship names, someone mentioned that there are two player portraits of a half-done race. This race is likely the Vasari's nemesis. Their appearance- lion-like w/ headphones.
Two scenarios of why this race is chasing the Vasari-
1. This was an advanced race that could muster itself rapidly against a Vasari invasion. They repelled the Vasari, but at heavy costs to themselves. Several planets may have been destroyed utterly. This would end up with something similar to the TEC/Advent, with a scar on the people's memory, and a thirst for vengeance.
2. This is what I consider to be more likely- the Vasari Threat is an uber-powerful race that CREATED THE PHASE JUMP INHIBITORS. In the manual it states that PJIs were not CREATED by the Vasari, and that the Vas don't understand how PJIs work, but that they can successfully replicate them with nanotech. This uber-powerful race created the PJIs and is chasing down the Vasari because [place rational/lore-correct reason here].
I'm thinking that with all the nanite research the Vasari were doing, and that in the intro to Sins they were running from something developed on a research station, that they could have brought about something similar to the Borg.

In the game though, I wonder what may happen if what the Vasari are fleeing from meet up with the TEC or Advent.
If the Vasari are terrified of them and trying to find a way to defend against them...then the TEC and Advent would be completely annihilated by them (as the TEC and Advent are far inferior to the VAS)...

I don't think so. I think the Vasari, TEC, and Advent are going to make an alliance to combat them.
Just think of the things each of the factions could contribute to each other:
Working together, they could scare the crap out of Peter Sunde and Chuck Norris.
1.) You cannot scare Chuck Norris, for Chuck Norris is Fear incarnate.
2.) March 22nd 2008 and still going strong...

The Puppeteers were fleeing something, but it was the blast wave from the core of the galaxy exploding.
The Slavers had been extinct for 1.5 billion years, but their technology was still around in stasis fields. One of their slave races was the Tnuctipun who were extremely inventive geniuses. In the end, the Tnuctipun launched a war that wiped out the Slavers. Perhaps the Vasari are running from something created by their own version of the Tnuctipun.
