well it is going to be a superweapon anyway, right? most matches are over before you can get half the reaserchable tec needed for the weapon itself, thus negating much spamming.

i think that nova should require level 8 tech in both civilian and military research and incredible cost and only something like the marathon would be able to use it and it would have a 10-20 minute cooldown, and that it would require a full research of antimatter tech just to have enough to use it
first off that nova only destroyed the ships on that side of the planetand the moon
its still sweet anyway i mean come on who wouldn't want destroy an entire planet with one nuke?
While I do agree it'd be cool, you'll all letting that blind you to gameplay. A nova would NOT contribute to gameplay, it would only harm it. And if theres one thing that remains constant within the modding group, one thing that comes before all else. It's gameplay. So the the nova should not, and more then likely, will not be added.
I mean Heaven gave the most extensive limitations but lets go through those and see how little they'd actually do.
lvl 8 research in military and civ? Ok, I get that EVERY game I play.
Increidlbe cost? Meh, I put a novalith on every single planet in the late game, cost means nothing to me
Only the Marathon can launch it? So? By that time my entire fleet is composed of Marathons, that's like a hundred Nova bombs just sitting there
10-20 minute cooldown? As said earlier, if a Marathon launches it I allready have a hundred nova bombs, I don't need to worry about any cooldown.
Full anti-matter research? Again, by the late game I've maxed out all tech anyways, so no problem.
A nova will never work in Sins, ever. It's like adding shields to the UNSC, it's not going to happen.
UNSC with shields isn't just bad for gameplay, its uncanon as well. NOVA bombs however, are very necessary to Halo.
Considering that the UNSC is consistently ounumbered and outgunned, they need SOMETHING besides massive spamming to turn the tide of the war. And this is it.
im afraid to say I BELIEVE colt is right. unless you could limit the number that can be created or owned at any given time then its not worth it because it will be a spammable weapon and in multiplayer it wont be fun.
Ok how about this, Nova is cannon but its also a wee bit over powered. How about limiting its use to only once per game from a building that can only be built once?

The nova as a weapon of war is not only uncanon to Halo, but bad for gameplay. Same as shields. As Maico said only one Nova has EVER been used in Halo yet you want to turn it into a buildable weapon for the UNSC? How is that any less uncanon then giving the UNSC shields? Not only that but it'd totally screw up the balance of this mod. In the halo unvierse the nova was perfectly fine, since as you said the UNSC was horribly outgunned, and outnumbered. But in this mod they're ONLY outgunned. They, if anything, outnumber the covies severely. So allowing the UNSC to not only outnumber the covies, but outgun them due to such numbers, AND have a super weapon that'd devoid a gravity well of all life? How ANYONE can say this is anything other then a horrid thing for gameplay is beyond me.
heres an idea, we give the ability to a corvette type ship that takes max research from both tech trees and takes a long time to build that way the ship is really weak and the covenant can stop it with a few fighter squads before it reaches the planet

nova's are not uncanon colt they are mentioned in two canon books
I said using them in war is uncanon. NEVER has it said the novas were ever used in the fighting against the covenant, infact, the only time a nova is ever mentioned was when the covies accidently detonated one. So yes, using them in a war setting, in this mod, would break canon in so many ways.
And Viper, that wont balance it out. The problem comes in late game, when everyone has max research, and everyone is rich as all hell. Anyone with a single desert planet could spam 7 nova bombs every.... however long they took to build, it just isn't possible. Give it up. This is EXACTLY like the shields discussion, a bunch of people who can't accept the fact it wont work will keep argueing until eventually it's spelled out for them. N O.
hey everybody you got to remember that some things just arent possible in this game. nomatter what you say you can do to fix it it all comes down to the text editing and its just not always possible to do the things your suggesting. colt i still find your logic to be undeniable.

Half the Nova's power and make it placeable only by the scout (limit 1 deployed at a time) that way the UNSC has a superweapon, but it will be incredibly difficult to deploy (and impossible in number) depending on the covie's defense. create it so that its only possible after everything else has been reaserched.

im sorry but as ive said its not possible to make that kind of limit. the ideas are great but there is no way to make a one at a time limit.

Like i said, IF the nova must really be in this game it should be deployed from a structure that can only be built once and can only fire once. It should be researched at level 8 of both trees costing 60k credits, 30k metal 30k crytsal (remember thats for one of the two that you need) The structure itself should cost 250k credits, 125k metal 125k crystal, take up 52 tactical slots (the most you can ever have on a single planet) and take 30 minutes to build.
With all of this even late game it will be a challage to build this, and once built it gets a single shot then a 999 minute rechage.
YES it costs a lot, but it also kills a planet and any moduals or ships around it which is a devistating tool that can turn the tide of ANY battle. Unlike the novalith cannon or any other super weapon, this actually drains your economy but it also has the power to annihilate your enemy and all of his allies at once if they're not careful. Even then it gives the player a ton of power.
actully the novas are mentioned in 2 books first strike and ghosts of onyx and in first strike they said they were goin to use them to level the playing field against the covenant.

Dunno, all I know is a Nova was only ever used once, and only one was ever mentioned. I've never seen ANYWHERE that says they had more then one except the Halo wiki, and even that says they only had a handfull. As the game goes, a Nova will not work, ever, and should NEVER be put in. You may have gotten the affects to work, but a delivery system isn't possible in the game (Not an accurate one) and it's IMPOSSIBLE to balance. I don't get why you people stay on this, eesh, let it go.
