First off, I couldn't have done this without the inspiration of the Metaverse League and Wyndstar in particular. Kudos to the master! Now to the matter at hand.I finally did it. A year zero win! Granted, it was only against 1 AI and on challenging (my current level) but I'm certain that 'tough' wouldn't have been much harder. On the other hand, it was my first attempt at an 'all-labs' and 'lease instead of buy' approach, so I consider myself proud that I could do it at all. Here is the link to the character, as a proof: http://metaverse.galciv2.com/index.aspx?g=player&id=14517For all of you, who like me thought that year zero wins are nigh impossible: Try it! Read the posts about it! It is difficult, requires constant micromanagement, but I found it incredibly rewarding to see that victory screen after 25 - 30 turns. Not the way I'd like to play constantly, but as a change of pace, it's a incredible challenge. And of course, once you've accomplished your first 'Year Zero', post here and rejoice! As an edit, I now include the current top score.Attention new players! Do not be frightened by these scores! Playing a ZYW is actually really easy, and getting a score close to 30000 points takes just a few tries. These games are usually finished in less than 20 minutes, so have at it. Try the tiny ZYWs first, I find them easier and you might get the unique chance to beat players like neilo or Wyndstar.Current ZYW record holders:'expert' ZYW - Gigantic
1) 198450 points - MottiKhan
2) 119000 points - Kzinti Patriarch
3) 109500 points - neilo 'classic' ZYW - Tiny
1) 56700points - MottiKhan
2) 40600 points - Kzinti Patriarch / Magnumaniac3) 38850 points - Wyndstar
Nice one, KP! If it weren't for my current game, I might be giving you a run for your money. Not going to happen soon though. I'm only in year two and still have 5 AIs to deal with.
Has anybody cracked the 100k mark in ToA 1.96 for a ZYW? The highest I can hit is 57k. Do you experts know if DA scores better on the ZYW that Twilight?
You've asked this what, five times in this thread alone?
Or maybe that was someone else.
To my knowledge, Magnumaniac pulled a ~103k in TA.
DA probably scores better by virtue of getting the tech capital sooner, although that's somewhat tree-dependent, but the final score should still be within about 5k of TA.
Grats on milking out a little more scorage, KP. Did you try that tip I suggested, and if so, did you get any mileage out of it?
I feel compelled to rename many of you *cough KP, Neilo, et. al.* "YZCrack Addicts"
(nothing better to do atm, imaging drives all day)
Hm. I was overjoyed when I managed my current MVL game (27k), which basically amounted to a ZYW using PI (because of no Super Abilities) but when I check the 'classic' high-scores, I see that I've still got roughly 10k points to go. Let's see if the rule-free environment helps with that...
Pndrev, sounds too much like hard work without super abilities.
A new PB for me, found a new way of playing with techs researched line. Finished the 105700K game on April 15th and about 3K in debt.
If i can get some cash using this new research line i may be able to give KP a run for his money.
Hmmm just about given up on trying to beat my 70k score as i cant for the life of me find out how to crack the 100k mark or even get anywhere close to it
That said, if there is anybody willing to give me a few pointers or let me know what to research etc to get to 100k i would be eternally grateful!
In the Tyranny of Evil we have a step by step process that spells out how to get high 90K ~100K games, each and every time. Of course this information is only open to those who are contributing members of the ToE.
Food for thought?
But what i can tell you is, and since im not sure on what approach you are taking i may end up telling you things you already know.
You want an Altarian based ARC using Super Ann as your SA (#10 it is). Take either the Federalsits or Technoligists as your party. Set your sliders to 0/0/100 and rush buy everything on the longest lease. Get and build the Tech cap ASAP.
Make sure you have at least 1 X700% and 1 X 300% research bonus tiles on your HW.
And play DA, not TA.
I think only Magnumaniac at this point is the only player to achieve 100K on TA, and what he can do is not always what the rest of us can do. ie..a 1 million point game on TA. Insane stuff....
See how you go with those settings mate.
Cheers
One other question. Which races start with only one planet?
just the thalans
Just played my first Metaverse game and managed a ZYW.
Only scored 8k though, so I've got some way to go to get the scores I've been seeing in this thread!!
Welcome to the Metaverse, and congrats on a ZYW! You'll find people very helpful here if you would like to increase your scores.
Sentient species taste better...
Welcome to the ZYW club Steviepunk! Dont forget to go into your character in the Metaverse and click the hard to see 'default' button so your medals appear after your posts
Oh and 8k is still a fairly good score for a 1st post
I've tried a few on suicidal now and scoring much better
Main problem I have just now is that the enemy always manages to get a colony out, just can't stop them
I've had a look through the thread and people are saying that there shouldn't any colonizable planets available for the enemy but with or without minor races there are always one or two and he (Thalan) get's to them just before I can attack his homeworld. I have everything set on rare and technology set to fastest - does star clustering make any difference?
It's generally accepted that you'll have the least systems/planets on tight clusters, more on loose, and scattered sometimes has more and sometimes less than loose. Or, at least, that used to be the case.
I don't know what the kings of ZYW games are using, though.
i use tight clusters, myself.
there is a way to reduce the number of uncolonized habitable planets that you might be overlooking.
Yup i too use tight clusters with a few friends thrown in to further reduce the amount of planets the AI can colonize!
Maximum number of random minors. This takes away four or five colonisable planets from the real opponents.
Gigantic map, 8 minors, and it should not matter what star settings you use. I have 100K games using all three settings. If you are finishing on April 8th, with giga and 8 minors, the AI will have no extra planets.
Never seen otherwise.
I've been playing on Tiny to get a feel for the ZYW strategy.
I just managed an 8th April win. Had a bit of luck with the research bonuses on my planet so had the spore ship around the end of Feb. However, the AI had an extra colony on first week of march and had a third colony ship on it's way to another planet.
Thankfully I was able to have spore ships sitting waiting until 1st April at the two colonized planets and the AI wasn't going to get it's 3rd colony until 15th April.
Had a few scary moments when my ecomomy went bankrupt (early March), but thankfully I already had 2 spore ships ready by then so was able to get through it. Still only got 25k though, so need to figure out what can be done to improve on that! Maybe I need to add an economy bonus for my race to get me through it, though not sure that will make any difference at the rate my leases are eating my money by that point.
On tiny the AI will get some planets, it's not oftne that they dont. You much better off playing it on a giga map. Just keep CTRL+Ning till the AI is within your sphere of influence and use the above ouotlines settings and you should start getting high 70, 80 or 90K games soon enough.
