First off, I couldn't have done this without the inspiration of the Metaverse League and Wyndstar in particular. Kudos to the master! Now to the matter at hand.I finally did it. A year zero win! Granted, it was only against 1 AI and on challenging (my current level) but I'm certain that 'tough' wouldn't have been much harder. On the other hand, it was my first attempt at an 'all-labs' and 'lease instead of buy' approach, so I consider myself proud that I could do it at all. Here is the link to the character, as a proof: http://metaverse.galciv2.com/index.aspx?g=player&id=14517For all of you, who like me thought that year zero wins are nigh impossible: Try it! Read the posts about it! It is difficult, requires constant micromanagement, but I found it incredibly rewarding to see that victory screen after 25 - 30 turns. Not the way I'd like to play constantly, but as a change of pace, it's a incredible challenge. And of course, once you've accomplished your first 'Year Zero', post here and rejoice! As an edit, I now include the current top score.Attention new players! Do not be frightened by these scores! Playing a ZYW is actually really easy, and getting a score close to 30000 points takes just a few tries. These games are usually finished in less than 20 minutes, so have at it. Try the tiny ZYWs first, I find them easier and you might get the unique chance to beat players like neilo or Wyndstar.Current ZYW record holders:'expert' ZYW - Gigantic
1) 198450 points - MottiKhan
2) 119000 points - Kzinti Patriarch
3) 109500 points - neilo 'classic' ZYW - Tiny
1) 56700points - MottiKhan
2) 40600 points - Kzinti Patriarch / Magnumaniac3) 38850 points - Wyndstar
LedZerggelin, if you have a save game to reload, you can replay and resubmit. The MV allows you to resubmit a game just once.
Here's my most recent score:
Sentient species taste better...
You should always play a ZYW with research speed set to very fast. ZYW's are all about how fast you can do everything.
Bar of course winning before April 8. Which sux, cause i know that i and i assume others could have won in early march. (tiny map)
Based on my understanding of how game length depreciates score, this isn't the case.
I'd be glad to present math on it but I'm having difficulty finding an acceptable set of numbers to work with as far as scoring in turns 1-12 is relative to each other. This is probably because of my minimal experience with ZYW games.
My guess is that it's just an arbitrary point chosen by the developers when imagining what kind of timeframe it would take for the player to win. In this mindset, if it weren't 12, it'd be 11, or 10, or 6, so there's really not much complaining to do about it.
@Neilo
February.
Only once, though.
Nice. March 15 for me IIRC. That was some time ago now.
Et tu, Brute?
((for those not in the know, look up the Ides of March, and learn something new today))
It looks like we have a new champion. KP with 108500, I'm just waiting for his gloat'n'boast post here.
Previous page Pndrev.
Indeed. Can't see how I missed that.
I replayed this one about 8 times to eke out every last point, and it paid off. Qa'pla!
I couldnt have done it without this superb homeworld, and a couple lucky cash anomalies.
I havent built the Political Capital in a giga-ZYW for a long time, but I needed more diplomacy to get enough cash out of the AI to stay afloat with all that research expense, so I went up to Star Democracy.
And the score break-down:
WOW!!
What a HW. I been searching for 3 library's. I get 3 mines all the time..even saw 4 once.
A formidable score Son of Mogh.
Worthy of song!!
Qa'Pla!
Well done, KP!
I've gotten 3 libraries before, but wasn't able to convert it into nearly as many points.
Thanks everyone!
Rightly said Unforgettable One. The ancestors in Sto-Vo-Kor are singing of this great victory!
I have found what has to be the best HW for a ZYW ever!! No question about it.
Yes...... Indeed.
Can you imagine the score, given some luck with cash anomalies??
Now for the bad news....here is it's location.
Yes i am still crying......
That home world is amazing.. and congratulations on a fantastic achievement. These ZYWs you all are pumping out really are incredible.. more than 5 times what a good ZYW score was considered a little over a year ago .
How the hell do you get those worlds? WOW
bigger map + fewer available planets
Damn! The score would still be limited by available cash, but still....yikes. A few lucky anomalies and it could be 120k.
One of these days, someone's going to have a 150k ZYW.
It won't be me, but I called it.
If the AI were just a bit closer i'd run it through a few times. I kept the save. Wish i had taken range and speed bonuses that time though....lol.
Has anybody been doing the ZYW on a regular basis on TA.The best score I have been able to manage is 49,000 on a gigantic map. Anybody out there crushing that on TA?Also, is it best to ALWAYS finish on April 8th or should you build some infrastructure and finish in December.
57,500 on my last TA ZYW Not so much as crushing it but i am a newbie to the club and have no idea how to maximize my score
Oh and its very rare for me to finish on the 8th. Normaly i take 20 weeks to get to the point i can destroy the AI.
BTW what setup are you running for the race/abilities for that sort of a win Neilo?
Woot! finaly cracked to 70k mark! May 1st win on immense galaxy TA 1.99
