Nope, that's a frigate factory.
This:
is a battleship, parked alongside a Vasari capital.
Remind me not to piss off the Xin.
i thaught that that hammerhead thing was the titan. and the ship in ther first pic was the battleship the one with the two pincer type things in the front... woa, so the titan ship isnt done yet?
Nope, I'm saving it for the final teaser before the mod release.
Which is in minimum 3 months....
ManShOOTer you sure you don't want to find some helping hands in order to bring this awesome mod even sooner to the world!!!
You would make millions happy !!! (me counting as 999,999 of the way)
well, uhh, okay then, so will ther be titans for the vanilla facts or no? and umm this is going to be EPIC
Hopefully. And no, the vanilla races will not receive Titans, as those are meant to replace static superweapons with the new races. Comparatively, the new races will not have static superweapons. They will, however, have super-starbases which will hopefully put the upcoming starbases IC plans for their new mini-expansion, "Entrenchment", to shame.
Yes but the preview did say the Vasari Base would put the DEATH STAR to shame so, you got a tall order to fill! (Though I'm sure you can easily pull it off! )
I dont know if anyone has mentioned this yet so sorry if im repeating here;
What about a virus/parasite unit? you can capture ships and stuctures with it like the flood from Halo and it could either be a weapon fired from a ship or a creature that flies into the target and infects it over a period of time. If you attack something you have the option of making the infection be either docile or aggressive, being if it were aggressive it would rappidly change the unit into one of your own and you can use it right away in battle but the unit it takes over would be half as strong. the docile setting would infect the unit but take an extrememly long time to take control, but when the unit it infected is not in combat, the virus can spread to units within a radius proportional to the unit infected. now the infection takes a LOOOOONG time to occur so the enemy wont notice it until the later stages when there is a physical change to the unit itself be color tint or a new skin or growth, when this happens the enemy does have the option of shooting them down but they wont appear as an enemy until they are marked by the user. around the 1/2 infected completion time, you can see the infected unit on the map, 3/4 is when you can see what they see by having the fog of war lifted, and by the time its fully done you have full control over that unit and it is at 75% its original strength.
this would be a final research item and cost a ton in resources because of how devestating it could be by infecting a whole planets defenses.
what do you guys think?
I'm sure ManSh00ter can make them hit even harder than IC starbases - what's been said about Titans proves that.
Having to be built at capital bays and flown into position should be possible, and even switching to starbase mode once flown in like Advent trade ports switch to resource mode.
The mutually exclusive upgrade paths, however, probably won't be possible unless you already have Entrenchment.
I don't mind either way - I could wear a leather jacket with "Born to Turtle" picked out in studs on the back with pride, so any static-defense-'o-doom is good to me
sure....till i come in there and start FIEREN MAH LAZORZ (literally)
btw i liek full frontal assults, even if i FAIL
A quick update before I hit the sack: here is a screenshot of a trio of Graviton Uplinks all ready to start spewing those nasty drones into space.
I'll put together a nice little video when I get the Second Generation Genome Elite Drone and the Assault Cruiser ready for some camera love!
I WANT A MINIMOD WITH WHAT YOU'VE GOT SO FAR! and I'm sure everyone would be happy...
Just to see those ships for myself!!! WOOOOOOOOOOW!
BTW whats the use of the vasari...theyre Unity tech tree is horrible...I can't find any use for them...can anyone point me what theyre good at!
I know TECH is commerce and overall good ships, advent is sheer power but what about vasari...??? Strange alien race!
vassari are good at defending and turtling, the advent have weakly shielded and armored ships, while the vassari have slightly weaker weapons but much much stronger armor and shields, plus they have shield penetrating weapons.
and TEC is more geared toward rushers.
whoah......thats AWSOME!
Chillymunster, a very nice idea, unfortunately I don't think it can be coded in right now. You could have an ability which takes over an enemy unit, in fact most new factions will have something like that (the Xin are more geared towards "smash, kill" philosophy, but the Remnant especially will have boarding ships loaded with commandos and xenobiologist specialists to take over enemy ships) but I have no idea how would you achieve the infection effect. Physical changing of unit models like growths is achievable with some creative particle editing, but without the actual ability that doesn't mean much.
Anyway, if you can code it, it's in, hands down.
I havent looked THAT hard at the abilities system, but I get the feeling a true viral ability is not possible - i dont think you can grant units 1-time abilities as part of an ability effect.
You might (note the italics) be able to simulate it, by making the "viral marketing campaign" take over 1 ship, and then choose its next ships from those close to the 1st target, and so forth ... and I'm not so sure about that.
well, its just a thought if anyone wants to attempt it. im not good at coding and modding, mostly due to my aspirations being WAY up there on what i want to achieve (such as my virus.) but, if someone wanted to create a borg/flood like race that has its own unique designs and stats like the Xin, id be all for giving that person my ideas.
i even thought up an idea for a super titan the race would use. it would be a lot like the death star but more like that evil mothership from Titan AE. i wasnt sure if that should also be a final research stage for your home planet, by having the planet itself become a ship.
i know that sounds outlandish but the back story should cover that...
the species lived on planet much like our own yet the star that they orbited began to reach the final stages of its life. The sun was beginning to swell as it was growing into a red giant. being in the orbit that the planet was, the planet would be swallowed by the sun. with no other habitable planets in the system, and the species, as advanced as they were had yet to discover the means to hyperspace, they decided to not accept their fate to die on that planet. the survival of everyone on the planet so they were willing to try anything, and what they did was convert the planet into a ship, a MASSIVE ship. they built into and around the planet, creating HUGE magnetic rings on the planet forming a shallow railgun like propulsion system that pull iron from the core of the planet itself to propel out of the system. when the project was over, their planet literally looked like a skeleton with a bleeding, glowing heart. as the blood of the planet propelled the vessel and inhabitants through space, they realized that it just wouldnt be enough if they couldnt find a new home.
they studied and invented but alas they realized that resources would run out before they could make it. so instead of changing the world around them, they changed the world within them. the converted themselves to be individuals composed nearly entirely of nanites. with the sharing of information and bonding with others, eventually the sense of self was lost and the species became the ship.
they found a planet that was habitable eventually, and the lingering sense of hope brought them to land on the planet, with the code breaking apart to form units to explore the planet and its biological wonders, and how absorbing it could replenish itself with new nanites and things it had not learned. it began to infect the world it landed on to satate its hunger.
thats when the invaders came.
another race that was so appaled by what the viral race was that the invaders attacked without hesitation.
the nanites remembered fear, its what drove it into space to begin with. to be sure that it would live on, the nanite mass launched spores out into space, each with nanites that held the souls of each individual that it once was.
the original mass would stay here and fight the invaders.
the nanites swarmed and inveloped the invaders, absorbing their technology for parts, and their neurons for knowledge.
there were more, much more, others like them that would harm the precious data of those who wished to survive.
to survive, they must adapt...
and thats where you go into space and start building your ships. eventually though your planet becomes a death star thing like what they had at the begining of the story, so its also your super weapon that actually has to go to another planet to ruin it.
thoughts anyone?
Love it!
Just reading it...brought the advent story up (or was it the vasari)...also noticed a reference to the tyrannides of Warhammer 40K with their hunger for new genes! Could turn into some incredible gaming ideas..just have to develop even further!
On my part..and since people are apparently into it...while w8ing for ManShOOter posts the mod and adding him more modding work...
I'll try to refine my Nephil class history! See how they'll compare to yours...!!
Anyhow keep up the good work!
My turn to through something down!
Ever had the feeling you were being observed...or notice that whatever you would do, life would always be generous to you. You know..the Truman Show feeling! Well guess what!!! IT'S ALL TRUE!
The story of mankind is nothing but an intergalactic broadcast led by a mysterious race, known only as the Nephils. Though, the human specie is unique and evolved now, it was only thanks to the innovative ideas the Nephils graciously gave them. But not the give idea you might suspect! Hell no..the Nephils are sleek little bastards who enjoyed watching humans suffer during the prehistoric ages. Only when their ratings started to go down, did they decide to give the humans a challenge. And thus, a few days later, a meteorite was diverted using the Salack's Preparator gravity-impulse weaponry and was set on a collision course with earth. The blast, which was closely calculated and monitored by the Nephils obliterated all dinosaur life form, burnt forests, in an attempt to gather humans, who up until then where everything like animals.
Later on, they gave them fire (which was ignited by firing an ultra-precision wave beam on a tree), taught them how to tame (a mental confusion beam aimed at a pack of wolves which rendered them completely helpless), to believe (a Nephil used a cloaking device to masquerade himself as a human 'saviour' and martyr and introduced the concept of God) and to wage war (well they didn't really have to implement that because after the introduction of the religion concept to the humans, they begin killing each other in the name of that religion! A back draft which delighted the spectators) .
The show was an interplanetary instant hit..with aliens login in daily to watch the latest human 'discoveries' and screw-ups. Wanting more, the Nephils introduced science, computers, chemical toilets, even the Internet (a fragment of a Beregion BattleFortress's mega drive) was introduced to them.
But then, the Humans went too far. In the year of 1969, an unpredicted solar eclipse shrouded the Nephil's transmission satellites for a few hours. Those were the last hours of the show. Because at exactly 13h41 on that dreadful day, the humans launched a hidden space shuttle (at that time two of the Earth's biggest nations were at war) aimed at the closest asteroid that they had named the 'moon'. The event would have been a climax in the Nephil's show had the shuttle not collided with the Nephil's DataCompilling Periphery which gathered all the transmissions and patched them together to make the best episodes possible.
The show was cut out for weeks (in addition to the few hours of the solar eclipse) while the Nephil's mended the damage. Unfortunately, back on Earth, debris from the crippled station had been attracted by the Earth's gravity well and crashed throughout the planet. Humans analyzed the wreckage and discovered EVERYTHING about their past and about their hidden puppeteers. The news sent waves of revolutions across the planet as people began to demand retribution for having been nothing but the centre of a joke. In the months that followed, international quarrels were put aside as the Humans united against this common foe. War industries were reopened and spaceships began spewing out of them like they were going out of style.
The curtain had fallen for the Nephils which, not only lost their most profitable show, but found themselves facing an opponent which, even though they were inferior in technology, had an indomitable determination.
Welcome to Sins of a Solar Empire: Tools of the trade.
The Nephils:
Overview: Being intergalactic television broadcasters, the Nephils have are always on the move for the latest trendy show. In other words, they are extremely mobile people which never stop scouring the universe in search of new and exciting locations, races or artefacts to forever secure their position as No.1 intergalactic broadcaster.
Colonies: Nephils do not colonize, on the other hand, they place furtively place transmitters on every planet they travel to. These hidden cameras basically start a new show and gather income depending on the strength of the opposing player. I.E. on an undiscovered planet, I could place a transmitter which would generate 2 metal, 2 crystal per second, a measure which would reflect the interest of other races in watching the show and the income that is provided through merchandising. Furthermore, a fully loaded planet, would bring in 18 metal, 18 crystal, as other races adore the show.
These probes would be invisible to the other player unless he creates a broadcast center in which he gets an option allowing him to detect hidden transmitters, or a ship with high-frequency sensors, capable of 'spotting' the emanations.
Ships: Like I said earlier, Nephils are weak. Being a broadcasting network, they contain no military force. However, in the light of the conflict with the humans, they have developed a system capable of mimicking vessels encountered in their shows. Therefore, it might be possible that a TEC ship would encounter a Bismarck Battleship, a 15 century Galleon or who knows...maybe even the Galactica. Their diversity is their strength.
Combat: All Nephil ships contain no shields and minimal weapons in order to grant them the fastest speed imaginable. Also their jump speed is almost instantaneous.
Technologies: Nephils specialize on technologies allowing them to better hide their probes and/or unlock new human (or even alien) vessel designs.
Economy: Nephils are masters of economy. In other words, as long as their probes remain unscathed, they will perceive an INCREDIBLE amount of funds. Destroy the probes...and their shit out of luck.
Nephils vs. others: On their own, Nephils tend to be weak, fragile as it takes a while to mimic recent human ships. On the other hand, in a team, they can be the backbone, deploying probes in allied colonies thereby guarantying herself a really safe and steady source of income which she then can spend on new vessels or give to an ally which is in need.
Sorry for the extra long background but I got inspired playing Diablo II (for some strange reason...)
Any questions or comments???

You know, I'm gonna like the Clans Remnants. Spam missile-laden jury-rigged rustbuckets at my enemies.
Reminds me of the Orks from WH40K. Lots of units, and they LOVE shooty things that go "BOOM!", like missiles, nuclear warheads, and fireships.
