I'm still on Vista 64. I'll probably go to W7 too, but not W8.
Here's the end result of my first game in eons. It was starting to bog down with all the planet upgrading, but I was only fighting with 1 or 2 warships at a time against fleets. It only took 1 transport to take down any planet too. I figured I'd end it before the micromanagement got out of hand.
Who says the ToE is dead..only took us what, 3 years to revive her! LOL
Nice game, yup, i avoided all micro, i didn't use shills to trade or anything. i'll look to start a medium abundant all game in the next day or so.Did you use ARC Motti? I'm thinking of still using ARC but going in an odd direction. Not sure what that direction is yet, maybe influence, idk.
Oh btw, Demigod installed. Let's rock!
I assume I had the ARC from when we used to play in my games folder. I didn't ARC specifically, but I didn't change what was there. TBH, I don't remember all of the settings.
Good to hear that you have Demigod going again. I'll try to find you on skype or in the game when I get home tonight if I'm not too tired. It'll likely be a few hours though.
Must....keep....thread....active......
Disturbingly, that's one of her better pics.
I thought so too, i saw no need in blinding us so soon in reactivating this thread.
I started a game from my newly transferred account. I joined it up in TOE as 3vilTwin. I don't think it'll be a spectacular score or anything. More like relearning the ropes and all. I copied the .xml files over from the Mottikhan games folder, so whatever ARCs we used way back when are still in play. I dumped the ships files and started new there.
Still on long hours and not much gaming time, so it might be a while before anything gets submitted. That, and I'm playing around with my new Roku streaming device. Cool stuff. I could do the same thing on my computer, but the Roku makes it easy.
BTW Neilo...
You mentioned trading shills a few replies back. Are those the 1/1 tiny fighters? If so, I found them to be unreliable as trading stock. Maybe I was doing it wrong.
This game, I'm trading my tech for their transports and using their own hardware/troops against them. Makes for easy invasion since the transports are parked right next to their planets.
Yup, me and DJ played around with them trying to hit the sweet spot with them, and i found and used 2/2 tiny's but you had to be real quick with them. Get above the 10 to 1 military ration fast and then use them as trade. You could get about 4 ships per planet...roughly, but as soon as the AI got any form of military, they were useless. The shills work only when they are an attractive buy to the AI, once they have their own ships rolling off the line, they cease to be of value to them, but then you use them for currency with the minors.
Now, all the above is off my very shody memory of how me and DJ nailed the best use of the shills, which i think Mumble then used to great effect as well, and perhaps the Kzin. Maybe if DJ can be tore away from SCII he may be able to shed some light on the matter, but thats about how i used em, best as i can recall.
Like i mentioned though, i didn't use them in my last game, and nor will i be in the next one (starting in a few days i hope). I have GC2 installed, and played a loss out on my centurions character so i can get the purple heart medal, something i thought i had done but hadn't, oddly enough.
Remember when trading tech though, don't trade any of your diplo techs, since that lowers your advantage over the AI in trades.

@Neilo, how may missions does Anno 2070 have? I was wondering about the $49 Euro ($ 59 Euro for the Gold) price tag if it was worth it? I down load Anno 2070 Demo and played the first 2 missions and got a nice little taste for it. I like the huge Coal Diggers and the graphics. I have a XFX ATI 4770 Graphic Card with a HP 20" widescreen so I can only image what it looks like on your CPU.

I'm not too sure on the missions, ive not really done any of the missions in the Anno games, only what i needed to learn the game. the missions act as the tutorial, i prefer sandbox play! That being said, im on about mission 12 i guess atm, but im stuck, so i was lurking about the anno forums, but i havent got back to it since i built new pc, still sorting things out.I'm sure it will look fantastic though ty!
Yeah, that makes sense then. If I was trying 1/1s and I needed 2/2s, my efforts would be wasted. It also makes sense that they see their own fighters as more valuable since they're putting more attack on them than the 1/1s would have.
Anyway, trading techs works pretty good and the AI will trade fully loaded transports for decent attack tech until you turn them against their prior owners. I wait 1 turn so my invasion tech gets set on the transports. I'm not sure if you can turn them around right away and have your own tech levels in play. My invasion tech is something like 5 to 1 against them, so it only takes 2 or 3 transports to take a fully populated homeworld.
My economy isn't smoking along like it did in our old games. It makes it harder to maintain a military. Still, by trading tech for fighters, I can easily maintain a 10-1 mil advantage. I'm actually building a starbase array this game and sending the fighters I got in trade towards it. It might not be as spectacular as our early efforts, but I'm lazy.
Yeah the shills only work if you have really nailed the start and got the SCC plus the ships under it by about, i think april 1st. Ive just started a new game, giga abundant all on suicidal and have run into trouble....big time. I ctrl =n a few times to get some kind of 300% bonus on my HW, i didn't care which, and what i ended up getting was a 700% library and a 300% library!!!i could not believe my luck, or so i thought...Good thing i save a game right at the start, just in case i frak it up, which i have...twice.
I'm not sure why, maybe the precursor lib did it, but i fell right into giga ZYW mode, and all labbed the game, and as such, by about March...im broke, and i haven't meet anyone, i didn't set the AI to friendlyso iv'e restarted twice now to try and curb my tech, i built one lab on the 300% tile and the havent touched the precursor yet. Seems to be going..okay...but i'm still a long way from any other AI, and have meet no minors, so i can't sell the tech, which makes having most of it at this point, useless.
I'm thinking i might cheese it a little (if this one tanks as well) and find some Minor locations, note them and reload, grab me some life support and engines and make sure i meet them asap.
I tell you, trying to play the game straight up on suicidal is a whole lot harder than a mumbler or a ZYW...I'm thinking my HW is a curse in disguise atm....
At this point, and after my last game, which still had all our old strats in it somewhat, i'm wondering how hard it really is going to be to play 9AI suicidal straight up, no SCC, no sue for peace, just colonize and invade....it's like it's 2006 and i'm still in the Colonial Fleet trying to learn the game!!!!Good stuff!
Nice start! I haven't seen bonuses like that for a long time.
Yeah, it would certainly be incredibly difficult to win a suicidal using all labs on a gigantic all abundant without using some edge. Especially with a library and 300% tile burning a hole in your pocket.
You have me itching to try one without any ZYW tricks or ARC. I might see what I can do to end this current game so I can start a true classic one. I'm not in a position to end it yet, but if I concentrate my economy on a military buildup, I should be ready in a few turns.
Who would have thought that we'd end up dumping the chase for score in favor of the old classic games?
Iv'e hung on to my save game and restarted the game..again, and this time im going all classic. Im building on both the bonus tiles, but ive built some factories as well, and am using the sliders to control the balance between building colonizers and researching tech.
Just like they used to do in the old days!
I did cheese a little and locate some AI and a minor or two, im tucked away in a corner, and i needed to trade...but im able to just keep above 0BC's, which is good, no wasted $$$. I need use an ARC somewhat in this game, my homestar is thalis, but im a custom race (using breeder) so its not soo bad.
Ive set my goal in regards to score at 150K. The last true giga abundant all i played classicly, was on challenging and was before we were in the HCH even, and that game netted me 75K, using colonizers and transports. Doing the same but on Suicidal i think a doubling of the score is a reasonable expectation.
I keep telling myself im not going to build the scc and lump ships under it, but i will do so to maintain a military advantage, not 10 to 1, just enough that the ai will grovel to me in the diplo dialogue.
I think the SCC is part of the classic makeup. It works as designed, so there's nothing advanced about using it. Even the starbase array works as designed. The only building that doesn't work properly is the MCC. Since it always worked the way it does (until TA), it's hard to call it advanced either.
I'm thinking the ARC and extreme diplomatic tricks might be the part that took this game over the edge. With those tricks, we could gain incredible military advantages that led to extreme scoring. I think the tech/ships for planets was probably one of the 3 items that removed the classic feel of the game. The others were taking the enemy down to 1 planet for score and the mass upgrades. Without those, the game can be returned to its original glory.
If we stick to standard play methods, I see no reason to disregard any building that could help the process along. Custom race config from within the game's UI would also be classic since that was built in.
Anyway, that's how I plan to approach it.
We might not really revive this, since there are only a few of us active anymore. Still, there's some life left in here.
Yeah, thats a good point. What i don't what to do with the SCC tho is to build cargo hull full of weapons just to park under it to inflate mil score. I'll build one or two, as the needs arise, just to maintiain dominance, but only so the AI don't come after me early on.I know its a non cheese part of the game, but it makes it too easy to beat them.As for the MCC, its been as it was since day one, and i will use it as such. As for reviving this, if i can get a hold of DJ, i think he may chat with us in the forums, but i'd be surprised if he can tore away from SC2. As for any of the others, i have Seth and Nik on FB, not sure either one is into the game tho.
A two man band once again huh, just like the last days of the HCH mate, IIRC we were the last two doing anything there too! lol
Once I turned my economy to nothing but transports, the AI folded. My 2nd game...
Yeah, the cargo hull fighters might be a bit of cheese. Having regular fighters under the SCC until you need them shouldn't be a problem though.
I started a new game without ARC. I just deleted all of the .xml files in the Dark Avatar folder. I also deleted the ship designs from the Metaverse folder.
Korx is my race of choice on this one. I was hoping to get a 700% manufacturing tile so I could go all factories, but I ended up with a library. All labs it is then.
I'm doing my best to play it balanced and use the sliders, iv'e got lab worlds and manu worlds. If i come across a research tile, ill lay down a lab, but my HW is doing most of the grunt in that dept.Got a question though, (and if SS is lurking he may well know), are you seeing an increase in 700% tiles in your game? I have the one library on my HW, but i now have 3 700% manu ones as well! And i have only colonised about 1/4 of the map (not bothering with the extreme worlds).
I don't recall seeing this many 700% tiles, but then, i don't know how many games ive played on the latest DA patch, maybe something was changed there??In any case, the terrans and altarians are gone and im going about killing the minors (since their inf base spamming is annoying) i could go right on ahead and finish the game inside about 20 turns i guess, but what i might do is stop colonizing, build out what worlds i have (~80 planets i think) and make sure what resources i have already are maxed out, then i will take out the rest.
For no reason other than the way i used to play (circa '06) i wouldn't have made a move against the AI till i had done everything i could first.
I had thought there were only 2 of each of the 700% tiles, but it's possible in older patches there were 3. What version are you on, again?
And IIRC it was reduced further, to only one of each per galaxy, in TA.
Maybe it was 3 in DA and 2 in TA-I've forgotten, and I don't know where I placed my research files.
I suppose it's possible that one 700% manu would turn into a 700% research or vice versa...but I don't believe that I've EVER seen it happen.
After looking again, i only have 2 700% manu tiles, plus the library for 3 700% tiles in total, and that is on the latest DA build. (new rig, new installs)
I don't ever recall getting more than one of each, and it seems to me that there may well be more, since i have only colonized 1/4 of the map, well at least, the potential is for more based on the ration of colonized planets v tiles found.
You been playing any Demigod SS?
I have to ask about "giga ZYW mode", What is it?
One more thing, I can't see Mottikhan's picture or any picture from imageshack. I have been using photobucket and have no problems. Tell me if you can see it but it says "Domain Unregistered. To view, register at: bit.ly/imageshack-domain" Do you know how to fix it because I have tried? Thank you for your help.
giga ZYW mode? Just the normal method in attaining Zero Year Wins on a gigantic map. All labs, wreck your econ..trade..trade..trade....i didn't want to play with any cheese whatsoever, just a straight up game.I see Motti's pic from post 3220 in your reply, not sure what your issue is here. For image hosting i have always used imageshack. Very user freindly without all the puff of other sites.
