Dawn of Victory (DoV) is a modification currently under development by Slipstream Productions for the RTS Sins of a Solar Empire. Dawn of Victory is a total conversion, replacing the game's original assets with completely new and diverse ships, structures, and gameplay elements. Dawn of Victory pits players as one of 3 intergalactic superpowers: the Democratic Federation, Greater German Reich, and the Soviet Union. These three factions wage war amongst themselves even as a greater threat, the Scinfaxi, threaten them all.
While Dawn of Victory started out loosely based on Harry Turtledove’s “Worldwar” and “Colonization” book series, since then, the backstory has expanded to the point where it has taken on a life of its own.
For centuries an alien race known as the Scinfaxi had been the dominant power in the Orion region of space, their slow but steady expansion brought them into contact with dozens of other races, each one conquered and exterminated to provide the resources and material necessary to support the continually expanding empire.
In the 14th century, the first Scinfaxi probes reached Earth: it was surveyed, catalogued, and the plans were meticulously laid for its capture and assimilation. However, the Scinfaxi concept of time was very different from humanity's, and so when the first ships of the conquest fleet arrived in 1943, they were stunned to see Terran society had progressed to an industrial state in an unimaginable sliver of time. The initial landings took humanity by surprise, as the Scinfaxi advanced upon every continent.
It was in this darkest hour that what once divided humanity now brought it together, as the old prejudices were put aside and every free nation on Earth united against the alien aggressors. The tide turned in 1945 when the Soviet Union detonated an atomic bomb on its own soil, destroying a Scinfaxi landing site.
With the total conquest of Earth impossible without destroying everything of value, the Scinfaxi retreated to the Southern hemisphere, content with half the planet. Decades went by with no contact from the Scinfaxi, but as humanity grew bolder, the aliens' plans accelerated. As spacecraft from the last free nations made landfall, and eventually colonized new worlds, the Scinfaxi slowly began to advance. City after city was lost until, in a final act of desperation, the various Terran factions agreed to pursue a literal "scorched earth" policy, sacrificing their remaining positions to nuclear bombardment and quarantining the planet.
Humanity has expanded to the stars, and dozens of planets and moons now belong to the remaining Terran nations. There has been almost no contact with the Scinfaxi, and the former nations of Earth have become so complacent with their apparent safety that the old prejudices have returned and they once again war amongst themselves. The Scinfaxi are still expanding however, and it is only a matter of time before they decide to stamp out the potential usurpers; if humanity is allowed to advance another hundred years, it may be human soldiers landing on Scinfaxi worlds. The dawn of victory is approaching: the only question is which side will claim it.
Past Updates
This mod will be amazing! I do have a question though, will it be for entrenchment or normal sins? If normal sins what version?
Normal Sins at first, specifically whatever's the latest version at release time.
It's about time! This mod deserves an update like this.. I had almost given up hope!
In a move widely described by military analysts as “unexpected” today, the Soviet government announced that it will immediately begin sending military forces to the New Weimar Republic to protect the system from “unwarranted German aggression”. While the first vanguard of ships to arrive in the Vega System are comprised of smaller planetary defence corvettes and frigates, the possibility has not been ruled out that larger ships may be redeployed as well.

The deployment of military vessels to the Vega system puts the Soviet Union in direct conflict with the Sol Doctrine, an agreement written nearly 200 years ago when humanity first began colonizing new worlds. However, the Doctrine has been criticized as being hopelessly out of date.
“The Sol Doctrine was signed at a time when the Democratic Federation, Greater German Reich, Empire of Japan, and Soviet Union were the only real interstellar powers. Now we have the Brazilian Unitary, New Weimar Republic, and dozens of smaller factions which have settled on the planets covered by the treaty,” says Nathan Pike, a professor of history at the University of Atlantica in the Oceanic Federation. “While the Sol Doctrine was instrumental in preventing the superpowers from settling too close to Earth, in modern times the only thing it has done is allow a rampant spread of piracy in the Solar Sector. Indeed, ship losses to pirates in the region are second only to the lawless Luktopia Confederacy, which was recently categorized as a failed state.”
Still, while the Sol Doctrine is behind the times, many are still wary of the Soviet interest in Vega. “A Soviet fleet in the Solar Sector, no matter how small, threatens to destabilize the entire region. What can we hope to do if they send in a Moscow or Odessa class warship?” commented Peter Campbell, planetary Governor of Alpha Centauri.
While the Soviet Union has assured Solar Sector governments they have no plans to divert capital ships from the German border, for some that isn’t enough. For the BBC, I’m Jane Perry, reporting from Vega.

Looking good guys. It's been a long while, wish we could get our hands on this.
Are you still following the basic structure of SINS balance?
I have to say out of all the mods for Sins (yes even Star Trek : Sacrifice of Angels 2: Entrenchment, which don't get me wrong i've been droulling over for months). I've been most excited for this one to be released. Guys if you need a tester, please, please, please, let me be one lol. Give up the good work!
No, which is a really good thing. Read the gameplay week stuff here.
*goosebumps*
I cant wait for this to come out! How close are you?
Coolness, I remember the concept art for that Corvette .
Germans were very outnumbered by Allies, so they had to use a super stuff or advanced technologies to counter that. Sadly, it didn't happen to Germans due to the time was running out but they almost achieved it. I am glad that it didn't happen to us anyway. Otherwise, we will speak German.
I check out the info of Greater German in Dawn of Victory wiki, and I found out that Greater German are still outnumbered by Soviet Union and Democratic Federation in manpower available for military service. It makes sense that they have to rely on advanced technologies to counter Soviet Union's superior numbers.
I like the design of Pavlov Assault Corvette. In moment, I thought they're german because of its sophisticated design. I am kinda confused here. I used to think Soviet Union is about making a simple thing. A simple/cheap bulk will do better than pretty one.
Care to elaborate? Please?
While the Germans are the most advanced human nation, this doesn’t mean that all their ships are automatically the best. While each side is going to have different gameplay styles it’s not going to be clear cut. Each side is going to have its advantages and disadvantages, but it’s going to be a little more deep then just “this side is strong but expensive, this side is fast but has weak ships, this side has cheap ships but they suck”
Holy sh!t! you guys manaed to hype me up again!
I hope this time we will see a steady stream of updates..
Been waiting for this for what seems tobe an eternity..
Well, that's good to know.
I can't wait!
I'd love to see something similar to the war, i.e. early german ships are by far and away inferior to other races (mimicking their poor quality tanks compared to the russian t-34, and even france to an extent) but they are strategically more sound... but I'm not sure what bonuses could represent that exactly.
I'm glad you're not doing the classic "archetype" model that most games tend to throw their races into though. A fluctuating power struggle tech-wise would be awesome, with races getting weaker and stronger in certain areas over time.
well first of all THANKYOU FOR THE UPDATES!! I love this mod and everything about it. the ships are ammasing and dont mind my past comment. So my idea was that the structures in Sins are a bit unrealistic. SO why not have only 2 or 3 types of "space stations" that serve either a civilian or military purpose. such as one sattellite would be a millatary platform, like in one of your pics, and it produces ships. THen the civilian one which is tradeing, research and all that other civi stuff. Also what would be really awsome is if the stations are upgradable so for the military station it would be able to produce bigger ships with each level. But just so they look imposing make em big like the oone in your pick that was being attacked. THanks.
I love you guys, I really, really do. Nazis, the USSR and the Western Allies in space. I've been following this since just after the switch was made from EaW to Sins, and it took me a whole 20 seconds to go, "Hey, this is right out of those turtledove books." Tying the fiction you've built right into the news posts with the hyperlinks to your wiki is also quite clever, something more major mod teams should pick up on, as it adds a lot more depth into what you're trying to build. I'd offer to help in any way, but I'm useless, at least in this category, with anything beyond the written word.
Also; Godwin is bloody amazing.
This is crazy. And awesome. CRAZY AWESOME!!!!!
Samurye.
I'm going to write something on later about this but essentially the entire basis of DoV is real RTS (as opposed to RT4X) combat. On a macro level, we want to make each side unique and vary in playstyle in a way that's deep but still accessible. Each race has strengths in certain places of the game, and unlike Sins we're putting a huge emphasis on varied units in the early game so that you don't have to sit around for a couple hours to start playing with the fun stuff. Factions' relative power varies as the game moves on, but there's usually a way to overcome that.
Now everything we're trying to do on a micro level involves making battles less about fleet composition and more about strategy. Too many designers fall into the trap of either "this is a dedicated anti-air unit so it only attacks planes because if it did anything else it would be too complicated" or "this ship does everything so the player will just have to figure it out eventually through gameplay". Both those things totally suck because you end up getting massacred by one unit type (or just have to do math: "oh yeah 1/3 of my ships should be anti-air and 2/3 should be heavy armor blah blah) or you end up with a bunch of redundant stuff and the player is confused.
Basically this is not the kind of mod that is just a bunch of stuff thrown together and hope it's balanced. Spreadsheets and essays are no match for real beta testing but we are really trying to push the limit here both for our own sake (we don't have to spend ten years balancing everything) and yours (something that doesn't feel like Sins but plays intuitively). I have played too many mods where there's a lot of work put in but the game is completely unintuitive, and too many where there's just a bunch of model replacements for the same worn-out game three years later. We are designing a mod for people that enjoy TCs but don't enjoy thirty page manuals.
Unfortunately we're limited in that respect until we go to Entrenchment, but I would love to adopt that system at least for the DF or even the current races once we release our Entrenchment expansion. For now, there's a dichotomy between civilian and military units: it's a lot more fluid on the Soviet side but that's pretty much how it works.
Carbon hit the nail on the head with everything he mentioned there.
