Whoa, man, you better take that back. You crossed the freaking LINE there, man.
ALL the Star trek series had some episodes that Sucked, some that were Great/Awesome, and many that rated as Okay or Good. Scorpion pt. 1 and 2 in the Voyager series were good, for example; so was Best of Both Worlds in the TNG series. There are many things, good and bad, that you could say about any Star Trek movie or TV series you could think of.
Besides, it was merely a suggestion. It WOULD be nice to see some other races other than just the typical Alpha-Beta Quadrant ones. And no, adding the Dominion doesn't count. Sorry if I seemed too demanding. I think it's great anyway that someone is doing this Star Trek mod.
It would have been nice. . . to see some more variety.
Hi GaryHam---First of all I completely agree with what you have said with playing as or against the same races in every star trek game---so I'll give you an explanation why we went that route also.
1) We chose the most popular races that most people would want to play.
2) We also went with the races that had the most ships available for import into the game from the net (we had to get permission from those creators before we could put them into the game. For the races you mentioned we just could not find enough ships for---imagine playing a game and only having a handfull of ships to choose from.
3) We had to come to a point where we started adding in different parts of the game into the mod---for example the tech tree we are working on currently. We spent a phenominal amount of hours just working on ships, planet textures, race pics, music etc.
4) We were missing a member of the mod for this latest release and now he's returned for our next release--WELCOME BACK REN!!!
5) Most importantly we are adding a section to our website that will include a section for anyone that would like to link an upload of work they would like to add to the mod---who knows maybe you or someone might like to add something to the mod to make it even better:)
Btw there wasnt one star trek series I didnt enjoy---heck even ds9 and enterprise had a great last season:)
Unfortunately, the only real modding and designing experience I have is with Civilization IV, and even then it's not much. I doubt I could design any race-specific ship designs or anything like that for GalCiv. I'm still having trouble figuring out the Scenario and Map editors. When I have time to try them again I might make a new thread to ask some questions about it. It would be nice if there was a tutorial for how to use them - there's a modding wiki for CivIV. I'm currently trying to juggle a few things at once - if I didn't have so many damn summer assignments for school, I'd have more time for learning how to mod games.
Ummm, no. "Lost in Space", errr, Voyager stunk. And lets get something straight, "The Best of Both Worlds" parts one and two were two to the greatest tv episodes EVER, Star Trek or not. Comparing V'ger episodes to it does not help your case.
I guess this thing is dead then?
this mod i can tell will b so badass once it's downloaded i will play it all day, Thanks and much appreciation for all the hard work into making this, -a round of rom/ale is in order
I think you hit the nail on the head there Chris. Or in this case coffin. It's unfortunate, I was really looking forward to it being completed to the point of individual racial tech trees.
*sigh* this mod appears dead. I have been lurking around the hosted "forums" for this mod and hardly anyone is there. An update was said to be ready by november but nothing has come of it.
why don't we form a mod team I need help with a mirror universe mod im making.
Hello all,
I am quite new here and just recently discovered GalCiv2 and bought the ultimate edition. I had no idea that there was such a great game out there!
After playing a couple maps with the vanilla game, I am actively looking for the best and latest star trek mod for this game. My searches on this forum and other sites however always end up with dead links or unfinished projects which cannot be downloaded.
I am hoping that someone can point me to the right direction?
As they say, live long and prosper.
Thank you!
Awhile ago, there were several playable Star Trek betas released. You're only bet to play a ST mod anymore is to find someone who still has one of those. They needed some work to clean up the files, but with a little legwork you'd be able to finish up the basic and play until your heart is content.
There was guy who took (well, stole is closer to the truth) all of the popular sci-mods and mashed them together as well. His links went to rapidshare I believe.
I have almost all of the files on my old PC, but not in a usable format anymore. I created a mashup mod of my own with B5, ST, and SW races, but abandoned it due to memory issues with the game.
Good luck on your search, but it seems that GalCiv2 is past it's modding stage, and is just populated by it's fans until 3 comes out.
Epic how do I download it? Will it work for the ultamate edition?
I think this the one Kodiak is talking about:-

It's fairly easy to edit out most of the various Star Wars and other sci fi elements if like me you don't like to have every thing on the same plate. You are then left with basically the ST mod that is the subject of this thread - it forms the main body of the mod, seemingly with elements of other sci fi mods bolted on. Gives me a slightly uncomfortable feeling playing it TBH - I always feel I am violating mod etiquette..... Nevertheless, it works pretty well and is your only choice if you want to add a trek flavour to this most trek inspired game.
It runs on Ultimate but beware the memory leak - stuck to large maps and avoid the next two larger sizes.
Will this mod work for the Ultamate edition of the game? I was wondering how can I install it and how to look at the pictures of the game if it is possible because I cant do that. And can you put some videos on youtube for your mod?
AHHHH... there ARE still others playing this game. I'm not very experienced w the game yet, I've only recently rediscovered it. But I'm trying to mod it a bit, and am having difficulty. I'm trying to add a second colony module, and it 'just' 'isn't' 'working'. ANYONE, w ANY experience, I welcome the input.
Hey everyone.
I just recently reinstalled GalCiv2-Ultimate and am too looking for a decent STAR TREK mod.
While I have no probs messing around in the xmls I am no 3d modder at all.
Anyone an idea if there even IS a still active modding scene?
Where can I download this mod from? Link no longer works. Thanks in advance.
I couldnt find anywhere new to download the mod either. Luckly I had the full mod on my old computer still zipped up. I currently have Startrek vs Starwars complete mod sitting in a folder on my desktop, its almost 2 gigs though, and I don't think I have any way of making it available, if someone else does let me know, I'd be more than happy to share if I knew how to.
Unless someone knows where else to get it??
Voyager against all those Tactical Cubes... its gonna get owned...unless there's transphasic torpedoes in its torpedo tubes. In that case the borg are in trouble.
"out of memory error" on Large map before even getting large scale building. I have tried all the suggested fixes, 4 different PCs, 3 different OS's, wide range of physical and adjusted virtual memory, etc. Still get that error and cant proceed further in the game. The kingston federation ship model is as far as i get, therefore havent even seen the nice looking ships. This is pathetic. I have tried 3 PC's while my friend has tried his, and he gets just as far then out of memory.
This has to be the most frustrated and disgusted I have been with a mod and in fact a game ever, since i want to play a stable game so bad. Wish I never seen this mod now. Guess I have to go back to Total War Series and play some new mods.
I'm not trying to stick up for the mod or anything, but you are aware that Gal Civ has a known memory error leak right? Try playing on smaller maps to see if that fixes your problem or contact customer support with stardock.
Does anyone have the Star Trek Mod still or is it completely dead?
I don't know. I was going to purchase this game soley due to the mod but it looks like its dead now
