Your Stardock.net account is used here by the forums, in Stardock Central, on other Stardock sites, and also to manage your Metaverse characters. "One account to rule them all."
Your account can have up to THREE characters tied to it. Most people will have only 1 but this way, if you have multiple people in your family playing the game (my son plays for instance) they can use a character.
If you've already pre-loaded, you should be able to go to the Metaverse and Manager Characters. You will need your serial # to create another character.
If you have any problems, let us know.
Any ideas?
edit: if you look carefully, this picture provides proof positive that I love ice cream.
dj-LiTh - Please note that the ranks and score/point calculations are performed only ONCE per day.
Warren Steffen - Users are not permitted to delete characters. Please send your request to delete a character to andrew _at_ stardock.com for review.
Serial Number Issues - Please send your sdnet username along with the serial number you are using to andrew _at_ stardock.com and I'll have a look at them.
maathyas - 1. I'm not sure what you're asking here. Where are you viewing the ranking that this question is related to?2. You must join an empire after you create it. If you invited your own character to the empire, then check the email address associated with your sdnet account for the invitation email.
TheMissingLink - I'm going to need a screenshot of what you're seeing please.
Finster27 - That's not something thats likely to happen very frequently. That being the case it's not actually a problem as we have some great support staff here If you happen to run into this issue, please let us know and we'll take care of you.
Jeysie - Good bug find. I should have a fix up there for your empire editing issues sometime after noon today EST.
You should be able to save a Metaverse game and finish it at a later time. When you finish it, the game should ask you whether you want to submit it to the Metaverse; if you say yes, it'll ask you for your password and then submit it.
A CTD would indicate that there was something wrong with the program's internal state, so it's possible that a game that crashes could be flagged as a cheat. However, there's no direct correlation between crashes and cheat flagging.
A game started via Ctrl+N is not flagged as a cheat.
Next time you see this problem, send the debug.err file that the game creates in the game's installation directory (typically, that would be c:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2) to gc2bugs@stardock.com along with a brief description of the problem (eg., "Couldn't post my game to the Metaverse."). Alternatively, you can copy the Metaverse-specific error messages and post them to this thread and we can diagnose the problem that way. You can identify the Metaverse-specific error messages by looking for "RPC error code" in their text.
The score is calculated by taking a number of factors into account. Game difficulty, galaxy size, population, research, economy and military all figure into the score and each has its own weight. Also, the longer you take to win a game, the lower your score will be. So, it's conceivable that a game won at "beginner" could have been short enough to out-score a "crippling" game.
Unfortunately, there isn't necessarily a 1:1 correspondence between the difficulty level you select when starting a game and the difficulty level reported to the Metaverse. The difficulty level reported to the Metaverse is the average intelligence of your opponents, which doesn't always correspond to the difficulty level you select when you start a game. For example, if I start a game on "Normal" difficulty but set all of the opponents' intelligences to "Fool", the Metaverse will record that game as being played at "Easy". And, even if I don't change the intelligence of my opponents, at the higher difficulty levels the difficulty-to-intelligence correspondence no longer holds. Therefore, you'll see discrepancies between the game's difficulty level and the difficulty level reported on the Metaverse because they're really not related. In fact, it would probably make sense to change what the Metaverse calls "difficulty" to actually be something like "average intelligence".
